A Christmas Story Comes Home Continues Through January 8
The South Shore CVA is pleased to report that our "A Christmas Story" Comes Home exhibit at the Indiana Welcome Center is less than 700 visitors away from breaking our past attendance records, and just short of our 2nd highest gift shop sales record. As a thank you to our visitors, we will be presenting the person who breaks the attendance record a gift basket filled with "A Christmas Story" products, a gift certificate to El Taco Real in Hammond, and an overnight stay at the Hilton Garden Inn in Merrillville! Catch the exhibit before it's gone!
January After-Hours Open House Offers Inspiration for a Happy Re-new Year!
Lubeznik Center for the Arts' popular First Friday after-hours open house continues in January with an evening of renewal and inspiration. On Friday, January 6 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Lubeznik Center's five galleries will play host to local businesses offering a variety of ways to get your new year off to a happy and healthy start.
Perspectives from Extraordinary Students
The Southern Shore Art Association is excited to display the unique talents of extraordinary young adult art students with special needs. The SSAA was awarded a generous grant from the Michigan City Enrichment Corporation which enabled the budding artists to explore many different mediums and techniques, while being taught by working artist/members of the SSAA. A six-week art program resulted in this exhibit of landscapes, self-portraits, anime, still life and abstract art.
Open Art Studio
This class entitles you to acrylic paints, space and guidance by a certified instructor. Bring your own photos or ideas to create your personal masterpiece. The studio sessions take place on Thursdays from 6 to 8 p.m., and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to noon at the Sunset Hill Farm County Park Interpretive Center.
Warm Up with a Hot Turkey Sandwich from Strongbow!

Jitterbug Group at Duneland Ballroom
Join Duneland Ballroom as they tear up the dance floor with the Jitterbug! Meet new people, spend time with that special someone, prepare for an upcoming wedding or just be more active with dancing at the Ballroom! Duneland Ballroom is proud to be Chesterton's only ballroom dance studio, offering private and group instruction to dancers of all levels.
Free Self-Defense Class at Valpo ATA
This Saturday Start the new year by learning how to defend yourself! VALPO ATA is offering a FREE self-defense class for anyone, age 14 and up. This is an interactive training session designed to help you anticipate danger, understand safety basics, understand the physiology of fear, and learn practical blocks and escapes, stop sexual harassment, and practice gun defense.
Brauer Museum Exhibits
Be sure to catch the exhibitions that run through March 18, including the work of Ron Villani, Brian Knep, Jeanette Pasin Sloan, and Claudette Roper. The Brauer also houses works from Federic Edwin Church, Asher B. Durand, Childe Hassam, Georgia O'Keeffe, Ed Paschke, and Junius R. Sloan.

Come out to the Bonner Senior Center for fundraiser Bingo! This gathering is held the first Sunday of each month!
January Golf Instruction at Creekside for Adults of All Skill Levels
The Valpo Parks Department has instructional opportunities for adults of all skill levels. Classes are instructed by Nancy Bender, LPGA teaching professional at Creekside Golf Course and Training Center except Golfing BLISS. This Saturday features a Pre-Swing Fundamental clinic for adults and high school players. This is appropriate for players of all abilities.
