10 Fun Things To Do This Weekend in Northwest Indiana: Evening Dog Walk, Pee Wee Prom, and BMX Race


Each week we will be bringing you 10 fun things to do in Northwest Indiana over the weekend, so you are never without something to do! This weekend an evening dog walk, an art night, multiple fundraisers, theater productions, a maple sugar event, a bmx race, and more are all on tap for a fun weekend in Northwest Indiana!

Dog lovers and walkers are invited to join Extra Mile Fitness Company and Lakeshore PAWS for an evening of fitness, fun and dogs on February 28. Activities include a one-mile walk with some Lakeshore PAWS adoptable dogs. Walkers and dogs will proceed from the fitness store toward the downtown square with a quick stop at the park.

Art, Music, & Open Mic at Mainstreet Theatre
On Friday March 1st, Main Street Theatre, has a full night planned with artwork, live Celtic music and an open mic. The art display will consist of children's art from Lake Hills Elementary Art Club and Michigan City Boys and Girls Club. The Open Stage presents all kinds of performances beginning at 8 p.m. timed to follow any major event happening at Lubeznik providing additional affordable entertainment for the evening.

A Heart for Adoption Fundraising Event
On March 1, 2013, an adoption event will be held in honor of the Allyn family. Come out to Aberdeen Manor for a pasta dinner, 50/50 raffle, silent auction, and dancing! Dinner will be served from 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm. The silent auction will be open for bids until 7:30 pm. Then, music provided by Trans Audio until 11:00 pm for dancing the night away!

The annual Chesterton Middle School Benefit will be hosted on Friday, March 1 in the CMS Goldsborough Gym. The Benefit will include tug-of-war, limbo, hula hoop and volleyball contests between the staff and students. This event provides funding for CMS to purchase athletic equipment and uniforms and also helps with referee wages and bus transportation costs for our student athletes.

Bleacher Bums Returns to La Porte Little Theatre Club
In the bleachers at Chicago's Wrigley Field, die hard Cub fans root for their team. “Bleacher Bums” takes place in the bleachers of Chicago's Wrigley Field. The characters are a bunch of Chicago Cubs fans, watching a game in progress on a summer afternoon. Most of them have been gathering here for some time and know each other; even if they might not necessarily like or tolerate each other.

Make Memories to Last a Lifetime
Be your child’s first prom date at the Y’s Pee Wee Prom. The Portage Township YMCA’s Preschool Academy will be hosting this amazing Daddy/Daughter, Mommy/Son, Fun Loving Adult/Child event for children 7 years and younger on Fri, March 1st. This magical Toy Story theme night includes a night of dancing with Hot Shot Karaoke. Delectable finger foods, beverages and desserts will be provided for those wishing to enjoy a snack with their little one. Mark your calendar for Saturday, March 2, 2013 for the third annual dinner at Third Coast Spice Café in Chesterton. Chesterton/Duneland Kiwanis members will be on hand to welcome you, serve your dinner, and even take care of all the dishes!

Maple Sugar Time at International Friendship Gardens
International Friendship Gardens hosts its annual maple sugar event this year on Sunday, March 3rd. The Gardens will be open from 10a.m.to 3 p.m. This is a FREE event the Gardens offer to local families. A special presentation will be given at 1pm giving you an in-depth picture of how the Native Americans and early settlers made maple syrup. At the cabin, visitors can have a treat and a hot drink.

The Princess and the Pea story tells of a prince (Sam Lee) who, according to The Book of Wisdom, must embark on a 6 month long journey to find a suitable princess to marry. Although he meets many princesses along the way, there is something wrong with each one, and he returns home empty-handed. That night there is a terrible storm, and a young woman (Victoria Hooten) drenched with rain seeks shelter in the prince’s castle. She claims to be a princess, so the prince’s grandmother decides to test their unexpected guest by placing a pea in the bed she is offered for the night, covered by multiple mattresses and featherbeds.

On Saturday March 2, 2013 come join the BMX community and Race for Life! The ONLY indoor BMX track in Indiana is set to host its annual race to support the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
