This weekend a liquidation sale, a benefit concert, zombie run, Elvis festival, bully prevention class, Zumba benefit, black tie bingo, wine tasting, adoption event, and Spooktacular are all on tap for a fun weekend in Northwest Indiana!

A two-day public sale is scheduled to liquidate thousands of non-medical items from the former Porter Hospital in Valparaiso. Items for sale will include furniture, file cabinets, office chairs, recliners, sleeper sofas, kitchen equipment, refrigerators, ice machines, freezers, flat screen televisions, artwork and much more. The sale open to the public will be held Saturday, October 13 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday, October 14 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
"Music in the City" Concert Will Benefit Area Schools
The first annual “Music in the City” concert on October 13 will feature two Smooth Jazz standouts performing at the Blue Chip Casino’s Stardust Event Center. The concert will benefit the Michigan City Area Schools, with proceeds earmarked for musical instruments and equipment and for “Dress for Success” clothing to assist students in need.
Freaky Fun Zombie Run
The Portage Parks & Recreation Foundation will be hosting a 5K Extreme Run, the Freaky Fun Zombie Run, on October 13, 2012 at 4 pm. Runners will experience the challenge of one of Imagination Glen’s Outback Trails, as well as, several strategically placed obstacles. Runners will endure mud, water, rough terrain, an army crawl, the Jean Pool, oh yes and Zombie’s to name a few.

The Elvis FANtasy Fest is a fund raiser for the Porter County Special Olympics and a dream weekend for anyone who enjoys the music of Elvis Presley, collects Elvis memorabilia or would like to join a local fan club. Licensed by Elvis Presley Enterprises, the weekend will include a qualifying contest for the 2013 Ultimate® Tribute Artist Contest which to be held in Memphis, TN during the annual Elvis Tribute week next August.
Free Bully Prevention Class
Valpo ATA is pleased to offer a free bully prevention class on Saturday, October 13, at 10:00 am. The class will last approximately one hour, and is appropriate for children ages 6-12. Valpo ATA is Valparaiso's #1 resource in bullying prevention.
Zumba for Retts
Come join us for a night of Zumba, food, fun, and friends! Snacks will be included in the ticket price and water will be available for $1. We will also be giving away some great door prizes. Rett Syndrome is the most severe form of autism that only affects girls. 100% of all proceeds are going to support Rett Syndrome Research and will be donated to Girl Power 2 Cure.

The event includes a Halloween costume contest for dogs at 2 p.m., pet photos, clinic tours, door prizes, refreshments and more.
2nd Saturdays Downtown Spooktacular
Halloween comes early to Downtown La Porte for the 2nd Saturdays Spooktacular and Downtown Trick or Treat. Downtown businesses stay open late from 5pm to 8pm on Saturday, October 13 and will feature treats and tricks for the kids. Bring the kids out in costume early for a fun filled downtown event. The 2nd Saturday Spooktacular will also feature horse-drawn hay rides throughout downtown.
