10 Fun Things To Do This Weekend in Northwest Indiana: Perch Fest, Poker Runs, Theatre Opening Night, and Golf Outing

3rd Annual Portage Perch Fest Returns
The Perch Fest and Gran Prix kicks off this weekend at Founders' Square on Friday, with night carnival rides, food and crafts! This yearly event will also feature the Indy Go-Kart Series Gran Prix and Petey's Mascot Olympics on Saturday and a 5K Run/Walk on Sunday! Tons of entertainment and fun will be had throughout the weekend: this is an event not to miss!

Run for PAWS
Lakeshore PAWS will host its first annual “Run for PAWS” event at Sunset Hill Park in Valparaiso on Sunday. The fundraising event will include a five-kilometer trail run and a two-kilometer dog walk, with awards given for race performances in various age groups, as well as fun categories, such as largest dog, smallest dog, cutest dog costume and more. Run for PAWS will also feature live entertainment and dogs to adopt.

Valparaiso Firefighters 2nd Annual Motorcycle Poker Run
Last year we all had such a great time, we're doing it again! The Saturday ride starts at Harley Davidson in Valparaiso and ends there as well. When you return with your poker hand back at Harley, enjoy a cookout (from 2pm - 5pm), beverages will be available, listen to live bands, partake in numerous great raffles and silent auction items, and more. You can still attend even if you don't have a motorcycle!

Valpo-Firefighters-Poker-Run-12nd Annual Derby Downs
The Duneland Education Foundation will host the 2nd Annual Derby Downs on August 13, 2011 at Sunset Hill Farm County Park. The “horses” will run the Derby Downs race, providing entertainment and the opportunity for race sponsors, runners and Derby guests to win up to $500 in random drawings.

Portage Community Theatre's Dames at Sea
New York salutes Hollywood in this affectionate spoof of the Busby Berkeley-Harry Warren an Al Dubin-Dick Powell and Ruby Keeler-style film musical of the 30s. The setting is the deck of a battleship where Ruby, the talented tap-dancer from the sticks climbs aboard a youngster and disembarks a star! The show is being floated because its songwriter, Dick happens to be a sailor and is able, therefore, to offer an alternative venue when under pressure from leading lady Mona. Unfortunately life on the ocean wave doesn't quite agree with Mona so Ruby takes over and she and Dick set off on a long voyage together.

Lions Ride for the Blind 2011
Lions District 25-A is hosting the Lions Ride for the Blind Poker Run Saturday, August 13, 2011, and will benefit our Lions state project, the Indiana School for the Blind and Visually Impaired. Proceeds will purchase needed equipment for the school and classrooms and help send teachers and students to educational seminars and conferences.

Fun at the Farm at Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore
Kids, accompanied by an adult, can join a ranger at Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore’s Chellberg Farm to experience both the work and fun had by kids about 100 years ago on an Indiana dunes farm. This 45 minute program is offered every Saturday and Sunday during the months of July and August at 4:30 pm. Meet the ranger in front of the Chellberg Farmhouse.

PCT-Dames-at-Sea3rd Annual Valpo Hockey Club Golf Classic
You're invited to the Valparaiso Hockey Club's 3rd Annual Golf Classic. The date of the event is Sunday, August 14th with a shotgun start at 1pm. 18 holes of golf including cart with a BBQ dinner following the round!

Flanagin's Bulk Mail Hosting Yard Sale
This year, Flanagin's Bulk Mail Service will once again be having a fund raising yard sale. Proceeds will go to the Boys and Girls club of Porter County (locations include Portage, South Haven, Duneland Club and Valparaiso) .Last years yard sale, benefiting the Ronald McDonald house of Indiana, was a huge success.

Each Life Is Precious Walkathon
The focus is to serve organizations that are focused on the well being of children and animals. In other words, our focus is to serve those who cannot speak for themselves. All proceeds of the organization go to helping to contribute to local organizations and their focusing on children and animals. For the upcoming walkathon on August 13, 2011 in Butterfield Pavilion in Valparaiso, Indiana all proceeds will be donated to the Porter County Animal Control and Shelter.
