10 Fun Things To Do This Weekend in Northwest Indiana: Pet Adoption, 5K Run, Art Opening and Memorial Day Observance

CHS-2011-Spring-RevueEach week we will be bringing you 10 fun things to do in Northwest Indiana over the weekend, so you are never without something to do!

Lakeshore PAWS Adoption Event
The organization will once again host the adoption event at the Harley Davidson store, located at 1151 Morthland Drive on U.S. 30. Canines of assorted breeds will be available for adoption from 2 to 9 p.m. on May 27. Visit www.facebook.com/LakeshorePaws to view photos and find information on all of the dogs available for adoption.

4th Annual Kent's Run 5K
Kent's Run 5K was established in 2008 to honor the life of Kent Ribordy, a Boone Grove High School student-athlete who passed away after a battle with leukemia. Kent was a resident of LaPorte, Indiana, before moving to the Valparaiso (Porter Township) area. All proceeds raised during this event benefit The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

CHS Choirs Present "Spring Revue 2011"
On the evening of Friday May 27th, the Chesterton High School Music Department will present its annual Spring Revue at Chesterton High School. This event will feature the CHS Concert Choir, Drifters, Camerata, Sandpipers, and Show Choir Band performing new music as well as favorite selections from throughout the 2010-2011 school year. Solos and small group acts performed by members of the CHS choirs will be presented throughout the show as well.

Frost-NixonFrost/Nixon at Chicago Street Theatre
The play continues at Chicago Street Theatre, which provides a deeper understanding of Nixon's administration and the intricacies of the issues and angst of the country at that time.

Portage YMCA Middle School Lock-In
Open to all current Willowcreek and Fegely students. $20 at the door gets you 8 hours with your friends, 2 hours of dancing with a professional DJ, access to 4 X-boxes with tons of games, 2 Wii’s with games like Just Dance 2 and Mario Kart, a newly released movie, a dodgeball tournament with prizes from local businesses for the winners and of course your full share of pizza, breadsticks, cinnamon rolls and pop for a mid-night snack and a hot breakfast of biscuits and gravy in the morning.

"It's In Our Nature" Opening Night
"It's In Our Nature" is intended to bring the creative forms found in the natural world closer to our senses in sight, sound and touch. As we view this contemporary exploratory, you will find it natural to toggle between who we are and how we view the world around us. Jeff Diesburg features his newest Watercolor work in the main gallery that reflects a more personal nature than his previous art projects.

2 BigHearts Foundation Annual 5K Run/Walk
2 BigHearts is the living legacy of Gigi Clarke and Sally Czechanski, two sisters who each unknowingly suffered from an enlarged heart muscle—a silent condition that tragically took their lives on the same day, 90 minutes apart. Their untimely deaths brought to light the reality that 64% of women who die suddenly of heart disease had no previous symptoms and the determination to make the most comprehensive heart screening a standard of care.

South-Point Cruise-In at Harley Davidson of Valparaiso
The always-fun Cruise-In’s feature live music, beer every week with the beer garden from Leroy’s, food from Suzie’s Café. The live music will feature local bands like Guns & Hoses (classic rock), Ernie Givens & the White Lies Band (country), Where’s Johnny? (60s & 70s), and Cyclone (classic rock).

Jeff-Diesburg-3Memorial Day Observance by City of Valparaiso
The annual Memorial Day observance hosted by the Valparaiso Department of Parks and Recreation together with the Valparaiso Parks Foundation will be at 9:00 a.m. Friday, May 27 at the Service Memorial located at Foundation Meadows Park. Mayor Jon Costas will speak and the names inscribed on the Memorial of area veterans who lost their lives in the line of duty will be recited.

Benefit for Luciano Cavazos
Luc has been in Advocate Hope Children’s Hospital since birth and has had 2 of the 3 surgeries required to reconstruct his heart plus 2 surgeries to reconstruct his stomach and colon. He will also need another surgery to correct the Craniostenosis. Come support this little guy on May 28!
