10 Fun Things To Do This Weekend in Northwest Indiana: Popcorn Festival, Viva! Celebration, and Super Smoke Social


Each week we will be bringing you 10 fun things to do in Northwest Indiana over the weekend, so you are never without something to do!

Valparaiso Popcorn Festival
Valparaiso Community Festivals & Events (VCFE) 34th Annual Popcorn Festival will take place on Saturday, September 8 in downtown Valparaiso. The event begins at 7 a.m. and includes arts and craft booths, kids play place, two stages with live music, 5K walk/run, food vendors, beer garden and the Orville Redenbacher Popcorn Parade! The Main Stage Entertainment will begin at noon at the Porter Health Amphitheater in Central Park Plaza, featuring four live bands.

The 3rd Annual Viva! Portage Customer Appreciation Celebration from El Cantarito will be September 8th, from 11 am until 11 pm! Come celebrate with us as we present free outdoor fun for the entire family! Live music, a Zumba lesson, moonwalks, face painting, and balloons for all of the kids will round out the event!

Super Smoke Social: Northwest Indiana's Premier Evening of Cigars, Fine Dining, and Camaraderie
The Super Smoke Social is pleased to present an evening with Nick Perdomo Jr., President and CEO of Perdomo Cigar and Tabacalera Perdomo A premier worldwide cigar brand, grower and production company, benefitting St. Monica & St. Luke's Soup Kitchen on September 6th.

Join the Crossroads Regional Chamber of Commerce for a wine and food tasting on Friday, September 7, 2012. Come experience wines from all around the globe all under one roof. Radisson Star Plaza Executive Chef, Brian Narug, has paired flights of wine with a spectacular cuisine, which has been themed exclusively for this occasion.

Northside Poker Walk
Come out to the 3rd Northside Poker Walk on September 8. For a $10 donation you get a poker sheet and you can to choose which Northside Michigan City establishments to visit. 100% of the proceeds go to YSC, the Young Survival Coalition, an organization created especially for women who have experienced breast cancer under the age of 40.

Last Weekend of Snow White
Chicago Street Theatre finishes out its production of Snow White, a classic Grimm Brothers' fairy tale which delights children and offers hidden humor for adults. Performances will take place all weekend.

On Sunday, September 9, the VFW Post 2511 will host a spaghetti dinner from 1:00-4:00 p.m. to support of the members of the Chesterton High School Trojan Guard and CHS Band Boosters. These groups are working to raise funds for the purchase of new uniforms for the marching band.

First Friday Artwalk
The Michigan City Mainstreet Association is pleased to present the First Friday Artwalk in the Uptown Arts District on September 7, 2012. The First Friday Artwalk has become a must-attend event for not only fine and local art fans, but music lovers, foodies and shoppers. This month, art aficionados can attend opening receptions at the Lubeznik Center for the Arts, Walnut Ink Gallery, Prince Gallery, Lakeside Gallery West, Blink Contemporary Art Gallery as well as browse artwork at local businesses within the district and the new Warren Outdoor Project.

Popcorn Cornhole
Get your team together for the Cornhole Tournament at the Popcorn Festival! The tournament will take place on Thursday, September 6, in Central Park Plaza near the Orville Redenbacher Tent. Come to play and stay for dinner! The Kiwanis will be hosting a Chicken Dinner that night from 4:30 to 7:00 pm, with live music from Chad Clifford from 4:30 to 6:30 pm.

Jammin' for the Dunes
Check out the 2nd Annual Jammin' fopr the Dunes Festival held at Jaycees Stage in Michigan City, IN. There will be food and drinks provided by local vendors and live music by local bands. Proceeds go to Save the Dunes, a local not-for-profit group that works to protect the waters and natural areas of northwest Indiana, which is celebrating its 60th Anniversary, too!
