10 Fun Things To Do This Weekend in Northwest Indiana: Radiothon, International Shopping, Texas Hold ‘Em, and a Night in Vegas

Let Your Voice Be Heard with WVLP's Second Radiothon
Have you ever wanted to be on the air? WVLP, the Voice of Valparaiso since 2001, is giving the community a chance to join in on the fun and host their own show for an hour during their Second Annual Radiothon November 7-13, 2011! Join the line up of great regular shows that WVLP presents to listeners and share your thoughts and interests, whether it be music, hobbies, organizations, clubs, non-profits, or any other reasonable topic!

The Second City to Perform at Foundation’s “Fab Fifteen” Anniversary Event
The Porter County Community Foundation will celebrate its 15th anniversary with a very special college tailgate FUNdraiser on November 12. The event will benefit the Porter County Community Foundation Scholarship Fund and feature a live performance by the Chicago-based comedy troupe The Second City.

Church Store Supports International Artisans
A local non-profit store, The Welcome Mat, will participate in a fair trade International Mission Store to be held Nov. 12 and 13 at First United Methodist Church in Valparaiso. The market, which is open to the public, offers merchandise from developing regions of the world. The International Mission Store, being held for the 10th time, offers an exquisite collection of items for home décor, musical instruments, jewelry, personal accessories and other handmade gifts crafted by skilled artisans in developing regions of the world.

PNC Panther Pounce Race
The Purdue University North Central 8th Annual Panther Pounce 5K Run/Walk, 10K Run and 1 Mile Fun Run will be Sat. Nov. 12, at the PNC Westville campus. A one-mile Fun Run for runners age 10 and younger starts at 8:40 a.m. At 9 a.m. the 5K Run/Walk and 10K Run will begin. This is a cross-country-styled course. Splits will be given at the first and second mile markers and water will be available at the 1.5 mile marker.

Kandy Kane Lane Craft Show/Bake Sale
First Presbyterian Church of Portage will hold their annual Kandy Kane Lane Craft Show/Bake Sale on Saturday, Nov. 12, 2011 from 9 am until 3 pm. Lots of homemade crafts and baked goodies will be available. Lunch can be purchased from the kitchen.

Texas Hold 'Em Tournament to Benefit St. Paul School
Join St. Paul Catholic School for a fun, social event for novices and old hats, men and women on Friday, November 11, 2011. The Texas Hold 'Em tournament will begin promptly at 7 pm. Proceeds will benefit the school.

A Night in Old Las Vegas Benefitting the United Way
Join us on November 11, 2011, 6:30 pm, as we step back into 1950s Las Vegas. After a High Roller VIP reception, you will enjoy the sounds of the era with live entertainment, food and drinks from acclaimed NWI restaurants, a live and silent auction, and mingling with the King of Rock and Roll, Sammy Davis, Jr. and Dean Martin (impersonators), and Las Vegas Showgirls.

3rd Annual Daniel Chavez Memorial Fund Scholarship Dinner
SFC Daniel Chavez was in charge of the Valpo National Guard Armory from Jan. 2005 - July 2008. Please join us on Sunday, November 13, 2011, to honor his memory at an all-you-can-eat chili dinner. We know Danny's spirit will be with us and hope you will help support this scholarship named after one of our unsung heroes. He gave all for his country, we will give back in his name.

Fleet Feet Sports and United Way of Porter County to Host Race 13.1
Valpo Fleet Feet Sports and T&H Timing have partnered with United Way of Porter County to organize Race 13.1 Valpo, a half marathon, to be held on Sunday, November 13 with a portion of the proceeds benefiting United Way of Porter County’s Power of Youth Council. The race will begin and end at the United Way office located in the Eastport Centre in Valparaiso, IN. The course is flat and fast with very few turns and intersections. A perfect course for a half marathon personal best!

Outdoor Circuit and Nordic Walking
Outdoor Circuit: A workout focusing on cardiovascular and muscle endurance, Outdoor Circuit will include moderate running/sprinting and various muscle-building exercises using bodybars, resistance tubes, outdoor equipment and your own body weight to improve your fitness. Nordic Walking: Explore Sunset Hill Farm County Park with Nordic Walking. This program is designed to attract beginner and intermediate walkers to the beautiful fall landscape at Sunset Hill Farm County Park. Through vigorous total body movement, participants will travel the park while enjoying socializing with the group.
