Every year, Porter County Parks and Recreation celebrates this seasonal transformation and the approach of summer with Spring Out to Sunset Kite Festival. The event takes place on May 18 from 10 am to 3 pm at Sunset Hill Farm County Park in Valparaiso, and is geared toward family friendly activities such as flying kites, wagon rides, wellness activities, and children’s activities. The 180 GO! team performs at festivals around the country, showing off precision aerial maneuvers and formations that are known to draw crowds. The Famous Flying Frisbee Dogs will put on a demonstration of impressive tricks with specially trained canines.

In honor of the organization’s second anniversary, Lakeshore PAWS will host a birthday party and adoption event. The celebration takes place May 18 from noon to 3 p.m. at Coco’s Canine Cabana. Coco’s Canine Cabana will provide birthday cake (for humans) and cupcakes (for dogs). The event also features a pet photographer, a coloring contest for kids and a silent auction with items from local pet vendors.

On May 18, the fast-paced action of the RRR skaters will return to their home location, Jean Shepherd Center. he evening will feature a patriotic theme to honor the Warriors First Foundation – our selected charity for this event.

Campus Life announces the inaugural Food Truck 5K and Family Fun Walk to be held Sunday, May 19, 2013 at Sunset Hill County Park. Registration will begin at 3:30pm followed by a 4:30pm start time. All participants will receive a commemorative event T-shirt and vouchers to be used at the various food vendors.

If you drive by Chesterton High School on Saturday, May 18 and see a swarm of kids running around on broomsticks, no, your eyes aren’t deceiving you. From Noon to 3 p.m., high school students will compete in the 2013 Quidditch Cup, an adaptation of the magical world’s most popular sport—quidditch—from J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series. The spectacle is open to the public. Admission is free, though donations are welcome. Proceeds will go to the Ronald McDonald House in Chicago.
2013 ABC Ride for Hoosier Burn Camp
Coming your way this May is the 2013 ABC Ride for Hoosier Burn Camp. The Ride is Presented by the Harley-Davidson Shop of Michigan City and Region 2 ABATE.
Things get started on May 18, 2013 at 10am with registration at the Harley-Davidson Shop of Michigan City. From 12pm-5pm "Bone Naked" will be performing live.

Chesterton European Market Continues This Weekend
From homemade incense to blown glass plates to pies and cupcakes to wooden craft work to traditional barbecue sandwiches, The Market’s over 100 vendors have it all. The old schoolers have proudly made their way back and the fresh faces are just as welcome. In addition, this year’s Market boasted four times as many seasonal vendors as last year, bringing fresh local produce and limited time items to the park.
