Lakeshore PAWS to Participate in Friday Night Vendor Walk
Looking to adopt a new pet? Visit Lakeshore PAWS’ booth at Portage High School’s Friday Night Vendor Walk on Friday, June 8, 2012 to meet with adoptable pets. Sponsored by the Fegely Middle School Athletic Boosters, the Friday night market recurs every Friday through Sept. 28 and features booths from vendors selling various wares. The money raised from the rental of booths will help the school buy sports equipment.
Races Taking Place in Northwest Indiana
This weekend, take part in the Munster Rotary Run-A-Round 10K run and 5K run/walk. This run will take place at Munster High School, with the 5K run/walk beginning at 7:45 am and the 10K run at 8:30 am.
Run to Raise Money for Seriously Ill 5 Year Old
Run 4 Rusty 5k will be held at Chesterton's very own Coffee Creek Watershed Preserve Pavilion on Sunday, June 10, 2012. What is the goal of the Run 4 Rusty 5k? Indiana University sophomores, Kara Fasone and Cary Johnson, envisioned this fun run as a great community event which will benefit an even greater cause, raising money for a 5 year old suffering from a serious brain tumor. All proceeds of the Run 4 Rusty 5k will go to the Schultz family for medical bills, travel costs, and other necessary expenses.
14 Year Old Brain Cancer Survivor Starts Annual Fundraising Event
Jon Nugent is a 14 year old Washington Township High School Student. Jon was diagnosed with Brain Cancer in March of 2009. Jon has committed to do all that he can to raise funds for the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation so that other kids do not have to go through what he has. You can help by attending Bowl Over Brain Tumors Benefiting Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation on Sunday, June 10, at Inman's Fun Center.
Event to Raise Money for American Liver Foundation
This Saturday, June 9, 2012, Clancy’s Irish Pub is proud to sponsor DeLiver the Laughs and Music. This show of many laughs and great music was inspired in the memory of Javier Nunez, brother of Crystal Nunez and Angie Merryman, who passed away from liver disease last August at age 39. DeLiver the Laughs and Music will begin with the sounds of Red Light Remedy at 5pm to 7pm, then on to the comedic antics of Steven Budkis, Adam Goldberg, Todd McNeeley and Hunter McKee. Rounding out the evening will be the music of Quick Fix from 9pm to 11pm.
Valpo ATA Black Belt Hosting Free Self-Defense Class
Valpo ATA is offering a FREE self-defense class on Friday, June 8, 2012, 7:30 pm at the Academy. This class will cover common-sense safety practices and interactive self-defense instruction, including breaking holds, striking pressure points, pain compliance, and gun defense. Types of sexual harassment will be described, and harassment defenses such as hip check and joint manipulation will be taught. Private Collection Showcases the Beauty of Glass
Complementing our upcoming exhibition, Light & Flow, this tour provides a rare opportunity to view works by easily recognized names like Lino Tagliapietra and Dale Chihuly, alongside an impressive list of internationally known glass artists. You'll meet at Lubeznik Center in Michigan City before being transported to South Bend for a one-hour tour led by Michael Hofer, Manager of Echt Gallery. PCT To Present "Over the River"
Portage Community Theatre (PCT) will present Joe DiPietro’s off-Broadway hit, Over the River and through the Woods, a touching yet hilarious comedy, June 8-23, 2012. A wonderful family comedy, Over the River… is a play about real people. Nick is a young, single Italian-American man who dutifully has dinner with his grandparents every Sunday. He struggles to find the right moment to announce a great career move to his grandparents.
Four Dancers to be Showcased in June 9 Performance
On Saturday, June 9, the South Shore Dance Alliance (SSDA) will showcase the choreographic works of four student choreographers who have been accepted into prestigious summer dance programs in Chicago, Detroit, and New York City. SSDA will apply donations and proceeds from the performance to help offset tuition and other expenses related to their respective summer programs.
National Get Outdoors Day
Families will have a great opportunity to sample a wide range of outdoor activities at no cost in celebration of National Get Outdoors Day on June 9. Part of Leave no Child Inside Month, this unique event will be held at Dunes Learning Center from 11:00 am - 4:00 pm and will feature opportunities for children of all ages to experience outdoor activities from kayaking to earth caching.
