Winter Dazzle Event Brings Family Fun to Downtown Valparaiso
Valparaiso Community Festivals and Events (VCFE) is kicking off the year with a weekend event that features a live ice carving competition and miniature ice golf! Friday’s activities will include free horse-drawn wagon rides and the live ice carving competition. Cash prizes and bragging rights will be among the rewards for the winning masterpieces. On Saturday, visitors can enjoy non-competitive live ice carvings, free miniature ice golf through ice sculptures and free horse-drawn wagon rides.

Student Variety Show Features Over 50 Performers
The Portage High School Thespians will present their annual Student Variety Show this Friday, February 24. Featuring the talents of over 50 Portage High School students, this year's offerings include vocalists, dancers, musicians, rappers, bands, even a magician and Yo-Yo artist! Also appearing will be the PHS Choraliers vocal and dance group. The Student Variety Show is an annual fundraiser to benefit the continuation of the Theatre Department and Thespian productions.

PNC Student Improv Group Performs
The Purdue University North Central student improv club, The Ranting Llamas will present shows on Feb. 24 and 25. The students' improv acting is made up on the spot. Sometimes a situation is given and the actors build off of it. It is usually done in a comedy aspect, which makes improv a fun activity for actors and non actors alike.

Serenade with the Stars -- A Pasta Dinner and Concert Event
Fifty seven aspiring South Shore youth aged 10-18 have been hard at work preparing for their annual concert and pasta dinner event. The fundraising program will be held February 26. $30 ticket includes a great pasta dinner served between two separate concerts.

Chicago Street Theatre Brings Annual Teen Show to the Stage
Opening this weekend is "Red Licorice", Chicago Street Theatre's show put on by teens. Not only are they acting out the play on stage, the teens also had a heavy hand in revamping and modernizing the script. Divorce. Aging grandparents. Generational gaps. Self-acceptance. Crushes. Friendship. First love. These “timeless themes,” as Director Lisa Formosa-Parmigiano describes them, will be front and center during this production.

Portage Community Theatre Announces Urinetown: The Musical
Also opening this weekend is the musical Urinetown, performed by Portage Community Theatre! Urinetown is an earnest tale of love, greed, and revolution. The show is set in a town plagued by a 20-year drought, where water has become so scarce that private toilets have become unthinkable. At the mercy of a single dominating corporation who maintains a monopoly on the town’s public amenities, the destitute citizens must pay towering taxes and fines to carry out their most private and basic of needs. Out of the mass of the pitiable, a hero rises to lead his fellow citizens against the tyrannical regime

Antique & Collectibles Show at the Lake County Fairgrounds
Join us for The Crossroads Regional Chamber of Commerce Spring Antique & Collectibles! The Spring show is this Saturday & Sunday, February 25th & 26th. Over forty antique and collectible vendors will be in attendance, offering our attendees a wide selection of unique items.

Join VHS Band Students for a Night of Jazz!
Join the award winning Valparaiso High School Jazz Bands for an exciting and elegant evening of Big Band and Swing Era music and dancing. Kick up your heels on the dance floor, or simply sit back and enjoy the wonderful music, but don’t miss this night!

Fish Dinners for Lent at Nativity of Our Savior
Nativity of Our Savior is hosting a series of Lenten Fish Dinners on Fridays, February 24 through March 30. The menu features 6 butterfly breaded fried shrimp, 5 oz garlic herb baked tilapia filet, and 5 oz potato crusted baked cod. Also available are pierogies, macaroni and cheese, and a cash bar.

Leap Into the Arts 2012!
On Friday, February 24, 2012, South Shore Dance Alliance (SSDA) and Southlake Children’s Choir (SCC) are joining together in a fundraising event, “Leap into the Arts,” now in its fifth year. This exceptional evening includes a complimentary cocktail hour, dinner, raffle, a stellar silent auction, DJ/dancing, and performances throughout the evening by SSDA and SCC as well as by guest performers Northwest Indiana Symphony Youth Orchestra and Wolffgang.
