13th Annual Runnin’ With the Irish Draws a Crowd Despite the Chill

The luck of the Irish was with all the runners this morning at the 13th Annual “Runnin’ with the Irish” half mile Fun Run and 5K run and non-competitive walk on Saturday, March 16th, 2013. The race was to benefit St. Patrick’s School in Chesterton.

I asked participants if this was good running weather.

“Not bad; a little drizzly,” one participant said.

“It could be five degrees warmer but overall it will be a good running day,” another person said.

One runner said, “It’s a little cold but not cold enough for me to not wear shorts.”

The 5K brought in 800 participants in all age groups, sporting anything from green items of clothing and accessories to full outfits to show their spirit and support! This event also was included in the Calumet Region Striders Gold Cup Race.

I asked some of the runners what they thought of the event?

“Much better organized this year,” one of the participants said.

“I’m excited to see the new course,” another runner said.

A third race participant affirmed, “It’s fun to see all the spirit of those running in green.”

Awards were given to the overall male and female runners and the top masters (male and female runners ages 40 and up and the top in each age group).

I asked runners what was the most exciting part of this event?

A participant answered, “We came from Indy to run with our family and friends.”
