1st Source Bank Awards NeighborLink Porter County Grant Funding for Lift Truck

Organization supports those in need with home projects

1st Source Bank has awarded NeighborLink of Porter County with grant funding in the amount of $25,000 to be used to purchase a lift truck to aid in the organization’s community work.

NeighborLink Porter County assists families in need in the community by bridging the gap between need and access, connecting them to volunteers and other resources in the community who can assist with home projects and other needs.

“Community leadership is a pillar of what we do at 1st Source Bank,” said Matt Vessely, President of 1st Source Bank’s West Region. “NeighborLink helps to ensure the well-being of those in our community, and this lift truck will make their onsite work that much more efficient. We’re proud to provide them this funding, and we know it will be impactful for those they serve and their volunteers.”

The lift truck will be used onsite during projects supported by NeighborLink and will be utilized to pick up and transport donations from across the community.

“We help families fix things in their homes such as plumbing, HVAC, and water heaters. We offer transportation, and even perform simple tasks like mowing yards or shoveling snow, so it runs the gamut,” said Judy Alders, Executive Director of NeighborLink Porter County. “Thanks to 1st Source Bank, this truck will allow us to keep doing what we do.”

Since the organization’s start in 2008, they have helped complete more than 800 projects for community members in need throughout Northwest Indiana. As of Feb. 14, there were 14 projects seeking assistance through the organization, nine have been completed already this year, and 90 were completed in 2019.

RePurpose Place is the arm of NeighborLink that provides an outlet for people to donate their gently used items, building materials, appliances, and furniture in support of the NeighborLink mission. The new truck will come in handy as NeighborLink staff and volunteers pick up donations twice weekly to provide to seniors, the disabled, veterans, homeless individuals and families, and others in need. People can also drop off donations at their location at 102 Beverly Drive, Chesterton, Tuesday through Friday 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m.- 2 p.m.
