Casting Call at Kouts!

For many high school students preferred after school activities are the highlight of their school careers, ranging between basketball, hockey, science club, choir and. For many students at Kouts, the drama club is their calling. Last year the drama team created a wonderful rendition of “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs”. Many incoming freshman were able to experience what it was like to manage and perform in a high school drama, while many returning sophomores and upperclassman added more experience under their belts for future plans and aspirations. With that being said, tons of Kouts High School students have been buzzing with anticipation in regards to the 2018-2019 play, and possible participants are in luck! Kouts has recently acquired a new play director, who so graciously produced last month’s middle school play “Snow Angel”. Audition information has been released. Make sure to check your emails and pay attention to morning announcements for specific times and dates occurring later in March. The community should be sure to keep an eye out for more information about the high school play! We hope to see you in the audience!

Kouts’ Holds A Blood Drive

According to the American Red Cross, about 3% of those age eligible to donate blood participate annually. Blood donated can save millions of lives across the nation. Kouts frequently participates to help raise those numbers. Last month, the high school held a blood drive with many students, staff, and Kouts community members of all ages taking time or of their days and choosing to participate in the event, many extremely eager to help save lives. With roughly 6.8 million people nationwide donating blood annually, the need for donations has continued to grow, which makes it crucial for the Red Cross to recruit volunteers to assist those in need. Just one donation can potentially save up to three lives. Blood transfusions and supply in general is in high demand, and the numbers continue to grow while the supply can't meet these needs. Kouts Students Search for their Potential University

kouts1On March 6th the school visited a college fair featuring just under 100 schools set up shop on the Valparaiso University campus to showcase exactly what their campus’ had to offer for potential students. Many Valpo representatives were in attendance and offered insight to the many different programs they posses, such as music, nursing, and engineering. Not only did VU hold booths in the ballroom on camus, but other large, well-known schools participated as well. Schools such as the University of Notre Dame, The University of Alabama, Indiana University, Purdue University, Kent State University, the U.S. Air Force ROTC, and many others talked with high school students about their future occupational plans and brought insight to the students on what their schools had to offer them. Not only did kids from the Valparaiso area benefit from the open event, but kids from Boone Grove High School, Kankakee Valley High School, Kouts High School, Morgan Township High School, and many others flooded the area to learn more about the many colleges on display.

Possibilities for Future Stars at Kouts!

For several students at Kouts, a life on stage is a dream-come-true, the lights, glamour, and glory flooding their minds, bodies, and souls as they strut across the wood floors in front of the audience. Not only has an amazing opportunity arouse for Kouts students, but for the Northwest Indiana area in general! The Hoosier Star competition has announced their audition dates for possible candidates that are interest in trying to compete against others in the area for prizes and fame. This year is the 14th anniversary of the event, with auditions being held on March 6th from 9am to 5pm, as well as on March 17th from noon to 5pm. The event will be held in La Porte, Indiana, on 218 A Street, inside the La Porte Civic Auditorium, where finalists will compete against others in their age range, whether it be the adult or youth category. For the youth category, the top prize is $500, with the adult grand prize being presented as twice that, at a whopping $1,000. The final competition will be held on September 7th, and the show is open to guest to witness the many talented individuals that will be performing. Those in attendance will also have the opportunity to vote on the winners, helping to decide who is best suited for the prize money offered.
