What's recently happened

This month, the Morgan Township Boys Cross Country team faced other schools in the Semi-State in New Prairie on Saturday, October 23. This was the first time in school history that the team made it to Semi-State and the boys also came out in 4th place, taking them to the State Finals.

Students Owen Thomas and Joshua Kutkiewicz placed in the top 20 which advanced the team to States Finals. The results for the Morgan Township boys runners were:

Owen Thomas in 7th place with a time of 16:27
Joshua Kutkiewicz in 16th with a time of 16:35
Ty Ivanyo in 29th with a time of 16:51
Aiden Ilic in 75th with a time of 17:40
Keagan Holder in 90th with a time of 17:47
Grayson Lemmons in 91st with a time of 17:49

This past month, the Student Council and Future Farmers of America (FFA) hosted events to raise money for their clubs and other organizations.
On October 15, Student Council hosted a Pink Out day for the high school to raise awareness for Breast Cancer Patients around the world. Many people showed up to support by wearing pink and showing awareness for cancer. During lunch, students from each grade who wore pink in support of the Pink Out Day, were picked out. The winners were freshman, Dagan Blohm, Sophomore, Adam Wasz, Junior, Kayelee Dudzik, and Senior, Jax Whited.

This year, the Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS) Club hosted the Halloween Howl for the elementary students. There were two different rooms for the event, one full of activities and the other a dodgeball game for each grade. The grades rotated throughout, and each were guided to the “Haunted Hallway.” The theme was farming, and the hallway featured high school students dressed as scarecrows, pigs, and cows.

Finally this month, the Student Council had a Polio Awareness Day. Students came into school and gave money for Polio. Polio is a disease that destroys nerve cells in the spinal cord. For students who gave money, a pinky nail is painted purple, and they were entered in a drawing to win a gift card.

What’s coming up

One of the upcoming exciting events Morgan Township High School is getting ready to celebrate is their Homecoming, after having a tough year with COVID-19. The homecoming game against Hebron will be on Friday, December 17 and the following day will be the Homecoming dance. The theme is yet to be determined. As well, Girls JV and Varsity Basketball will start up next month on November 6.

Teacher feature

This month's teacher feature is Heather Bush, the new Sophomore/Senior English teacher. Bush attended Portage High School, Indiana University Bloomington, and Columbia University, Teachers College in NYC.

She has been teaching students for 20 years. She says the hardest part of this year has been the schedule because she has her prep period first period, so she has to teach back-to-back classes from 8:30 a.m. -2:45 p.m.

Bush is still positive through it all though and enjoys her job at Morgan Township High School.

“My favorite part of the school year has been being able to teach a subject I'm passionate about. And the students.”

She also said that this year has been challenging yet rewarding.

“My teachers were a source of guidance and inspiration for my path in life. I wanted to do that for my students as well.”

Student feature

Freshmen Ireland Hanna and Tristan Maddox are new to Morgan Township this year but have been making the most out of their experience.

Maddox moved to Morgan Township from Alaska this year and is starting his high school career on a great note. He is involved in the yearbook and the bowling team.

“Getting to meet new people has been my favorite part of coming to a new school," he said.

This has been stressful for Maddox, but his favorite part has been meeting and enjoying time with friends.

Hanna, who is also a freshman, is involved in several clubs and activities such as Soccer, Drama Club, Dance, Cheer, Drumline, DECA, Interact, Track and Field, and Art Club. Hanna is enjoying all of the new experiences high school has brought to her.

“Being in high school is better than middle school because you are given more opportunities and freedom.” Ireland said. “Being able to participate in the yearbook and hang out with amazing people has been my favorite parts.”
