#1StudentNWI: Morgan Township’s end of the year includes homecoming, spirit week, sports, and dodgeball tournament

Once again, the time has come to celebrate Morgan Township High School’s homecoming. Last year Morgan did not get to celebrate with a dance due to COVID-19, but this year they are able to. Morgan started off with their spirit week. They started off with PJ day and continued with country vs. country club, media day, USA, and Morgan spirit. The students had a great time dressing up and they had many people who were very creative!

“My favorite day of spirit week had to be media day. The costumes people came up with were hilarious!” said Student Makenzie Fausnaugh.

Media day consisted of many amazing outfits done by Morgan's students. People dressed as characters from television shows or movies, such as Phoebe Buffay from "Friends" and Mickey Mouse, or they dressed us as memes, such as the iconic "road work" vine.

“My favorite day was PJ Day cause I enjoy comfort,” said Freshman Tristian Maddox.

People started off the week comfy and cozy in their fuzzy pajamas. Some students went all out with onesies, slippers, blankets, and pillows.

“My favorite day of the week had to be country vs. country club because I had all the clothing that perfectly went with country since I rode horses,” said Freshman Alexis Leek.

Morgan showed off the country spirit later on in the week. The people who dressed in "country club" fashion were very creative in their approach. They had fake golf clubs and bags and dressed extra nice.

On Friday, December 17, the Boys JV and Varsity Basketball Teams played fiercely for the homecoming game. Against the Hebron Hawks, both Morgan teams won with outstanding scores. The varsity team won 61-51 thanks to top players Keagan Holder with 21 points, Ian Grieger with 18 points, and Greyson Lemmons with 11 points. Morgan saw a lot of support as well from the pep block during the entire night. They cheered on all night and Morgan got an appearance from their mascot, Cherokee Chad.

The dance team for Morgan had an amazing performance as well during halftime of the boys varsity game. The girls did amazing with smooth turns and spins. The cheer team was also very clean during the game. They cheered on the boys and encouraged the crowd to amp up the court.

Finally, the night everyone was excited and waiting for: homecoming night. Everyone was dressed well and cleaned up nicely. Every year, Morgan celebrates with the crowning of the homecoming court. The prince and princess went to DJ Hand and Maria Lemmons. Homecoming King and Queen went to Greyson Lemmons and Nina Nash.

The homecoming dance was just as successful as the game. The students enjoyed music, desserts, and dancing, and everyone had a great time.

“Getting crowned as queen after being homecoming princess was amazing and such a nice feeling,” said Nash.

The royal court was definitely an amazing group of people. Each student had big dreams and enjoyable things to say.

“The best part of the night was hanging out and dancing with friends,” said Sophomore Neveah Dozier.

Students danced all night and enjoyed hype and pumped-up music. Everyone was dressed nicely and had a fun-filled night in Morgan’s "Starry Night" theme.

“I enjoyed the desserts they had out, but also enjoyed the music and friends,” said Junior Brayden Mathena.

Also this month, Morgan had its annual dodgeball tournament on the last day of the semester. The teams enjoyed the time, as well as the spectators. The games were intense and everyone held their breath every time a ball soared across the court. People yelled and cheered, and at one point, an entire area of the stand was cheering for Team Fezatt.

In the end, the winners were indeed Team Fezatt. The cheering and support from everyone must have paid off. This team included Brayden Bacon, Cole Engibous, Clint Lemmons, Braelynn Dudzik, Sierra Ricke, Officer Knapp, and Dean Hill.

“I liked playing dodgeball with my friends, and winning was the best part of the whole thing,” said Freshman Cole Engibous.

In the end, it is safe to say Morgan's December end to 2021 was a complete success. They had a fun-filled month of spirit thanks to the creativity shown by Morgan's students. Then, students enjoyed a pumped-up night, filled with dancing, food, and socializing at homecoming. Finally, Morgan ended off the year with an exciting and action-packed dodgeball game where students got to enjoy the heightened moment of the end of the year.

Morgan had a successful first semester with bright students and amazing teachers and staff. Now they enter the new year where more success and fun will arise.
