#1StudentNWI: Spirted Teachers and Spirited Students at Morgan Township High School

Teacher Feature:

Six years ago, a great teacher joined the workforce. Brooke Allen is one of Morgan’s most spirited, creative, and hardworking teachers. She teaches English 9 and 11, Yearbook, and two new classes: Novels and Creative Writing. Mrs. Allen is a very innovative instructor. Her classes always include creative ways to learn, and provide variety that caters to every learning type. She loves to have students take part in projects ranging from sketches to blogs, and even podcasts. Even though Morgan has only just begun 1:1 Learning, Mrs. Allen has always been big on technology. She wants her students to “have skills for college and the workplace once they leave high school”. When it comes to after high school, Mrs. Allen wants to prepare her students so that they are able to communicate and create for an outside audience.

Mrs. Allen is extremely dedicated and always takes the time to find the best in each person. She teaches her students to work hard, and how to think beyond the black and white area.

“I try to plan activities and assignments that lead you to an answer instead of me giving you an answer.”

Senior Nights:

Some of the most emotional nights of the school year occur during Senior Night. Each sport with a Senior member prepares a special commemoration for them. Underclassmen often make little gifts for their seniors, and senior students have to chance to recognize all of their accomplishments in their sport, and in their high school career.

Some of the Senior Nights held so far have been for boys volleyball, and girls and boys soccer.

Robby Schneider, a soccer captain and senior, says, “It’s crazy to have my own senior night. I’ve always been on the other side, and it’s so cool to be the one that the night is about now.”

There are still many sports left in the year, which means there are many more Senior Nights still to come.

Cherokee Credit Union:

The Regional Federal Credit Union has sponsored a branch that is open during middle and high school lunch hours every Tuesday. September 29th was the opening date of the year for the Cherokee branch. Students had the chance to open an account and spin a wheel full of various prizes. At the Credit Union students are able to deposit and withdraw money and have the chance to learn about banking in a way that’s convenient and simple. The school’s branch is a great part of our school because of the knowledge it provides, and also because it allows students to work for the branch. This year seven students have been hired to help run the school’s Credit Union; Middle schoolers Colin Conners, Riley Smith, and Jamen Barker, and high schoolers Katie Henderson, Kyle Stowers, Mike Randall, and Evan Dye.

Pink Out Day for Breast Cancer Awareness Month:

Student Council heavily supports Breast Cancer Awareness Month and creates various activities for the school to either show their support or help fundraise. October 1st kicked off the month with the popular “pink out day”. On this day students in the school wear as much pink as possible to show their support for those who have suffered from breast cancer. Students who wore the most pink were even given small prizes!

On October 6th, the high school girls Volleyball also had a pink out during their game. In addition to that, donations for the American Cancer Society were accepted at the doors. Throughout the month, Student Council will be accepting names of those who have battled breast cancer from students to hang in the halls. At Morgan, October will be spent commemorating those who have fought cancer, and helping find a cure for those still battling.
