#1StudentNWI: students and teachers discuss back to school at Morgan Township

As the summer comes to an end, students are starting to prepare for the upcoming year. With back to school comes may different emotions, but students at Morgan Township High School are mostly eager and excited to get back to doing what they love. Students are excited to advance in their academics and prepare for their future careers, teachers are excited to see new faces and get back to normal routines, and everyone is looking forward to the new memories and experiences that a fresh school year brings.

After much discussion, here are a few things that teachers and students shared in regards to their excitement of the 2021-22 school year at Morgan Township.

Students:

Makenzie Fausanugh – “I’m excited about doing vocational and getting hands-on learning to benefit my future, as opposed to taking general education classes that are less specific.”

Bridgette Mathena – "I’m excited to be going to the Porter County Sheriff’s Office to talk about my future as a law enforcement officer and taking extra classes."

Victoria Detraz – "I’m excited to drive by myself to school, and I’m excited to see where the basketball team goes."

Courtney Hamrick – "I'm probably most excited for vocational and my AP language class. I'm looking forward to those first, seeing as it's something new that I can test myself with. It's also something that will help me more in the future for something I want to go into. College-wise, I'm hoping to go into graphic design and the videography vvocational course will help set me up for that. Also, college credits will be a massive help in doing a dual major and setting up for that."

Logan Connors – "I’m excited for vocational since I’ll be doing a computer-aided design (CAD) program."

Aidan Ilic – "I'm excited for vocational, being able to drive, and being able to help the upcoming class in high school. I can't wait to see all my friends, too.”

Gigi Rubarts – "It’ll be interesting to start my vocational class this school year. Meeting new people will add more excitement to my junior year. Plus, it will be fun to leave school early to work on my cosmetology license!"

Teachers and staff:

Vanessa George – "I’m excited for the opportunity of a fresh start. The last couple of years have been chaotic as everyone knows, and I’m looking forward to not necessarily getting back to normal but building from everything that I’ve learned. I look forward to being able to work with our student council again to do more community service events as many things were put on hold due to COVID. I hope to be more positive every day and focus on what is good in the world instead of letting the negatives bring me down."

Gaelyn Mlynarcik – "I’m most excited about seeing students every day!"

Chris George – "I am most looking forward to seeing all of our students' faces as we start this year with masks optional. Additionally, I am really looking forward to helping students and staff members navigate the start of the year and getting into classrooms to see students learning."
