#1StudentNWI: Super Sports at Boone Groove High School

BOONEGROOVE1A New Look for the BGHS Girls Volleyball Team:

Boone Grove’s volleyball program is looking forward to a fresh start and a new look for the upcoming 2015-2016 volleyball season. With last year’s senior losses: all-around players, Kennedy Starcevich, Carrie Kovacik, and Lexi Thill, Boone Grove, only has a few returning players. Not only did Boone Grove lose three important players, they also lost their season coach Linda Eleftheri. Linda had previously coached for twenty-five years or so at Boone Grove High School, however, the state determined which sport she would coach this oncoming season. With the Boone Grove girl’s season beginning just a couple weeks before the upcoming school year, the Boone Grove Lady Wolves are already hitting the gyms. Boone Grove would also like to give a warm welcome to their new coach, Patty Sparks. Patty previously played as a middle hitter for Purdue Cal from 1994 to 1997. “My favorite experience was two-a-days in college. We would simply eat, sleep, and play volleyball for three weeks straight! I learned so much and am still best friends with my teammates to this day,” said Patty. Patty looks for a driven athlete who is self-motivated when conditioning, seeks to get better at every practice, and loyal to the program. It is Patty’s hope to bring a new level of excellence to Boone Grove.

IHSAA Leadership Conference 2015:

A few of Boone Grove’s top athletes were selected to attend the Indiana High School Athletic Association Leadership Conference in Plainfield, Indiana this month. Getting up before dusk the students began the long three-hour drive to Plainfield High School. There the students learned the value of being a team player, how to be a proper team captain, and how to make your school a better place.

Over one thousand students flooded into the auditorium around nine o’clock, eager to see what the day would consist of. They began the day with a “mascot dance off’ each school that brought along their mascot got to compete for a prize. Later that evening, the students were given t-shirts provided by their school, to exchange with students from other schools. Each student had their own schedule that would allow them to listen to many different speakers that spoke on a wide variety of topics, in hopes that each of these athletes would bring back with them the motivation of making their school a better place.

Boone Grove Basketball Outlooks:

With much improvement from last year, the girls’ basketball team is looking forward to a very competitive season. With much young talent, Coach Linda Eleftheri, is excited for the oncoming season she has ahead of her. The Boone Grove boys’ basketball team has been pretty successful this summer. The boys had a great time at the Dells this month winning every game up until semifinals. Boone Grove’s, Ian McCkay, is very excited for how competitive the Porter County Conference is going to be this year.
