2014 Shirley Heinze Land Trust Hike Program

2014_Shirley_Heinze_Land_Trust_Hike_ProgThis year marks thirty years of guided hikes sponsored by Shirley Heinze Land Trust. The second hike in the 2014 Guided Hike Series sponsored by Shirley Heinze Land Trust will be a Tallgrass Prairie Hike at The Gensburg-Markham Prairie, also known as Markham Prairie, is a 105.6-acre high-quality tallgrass prairie located in Markham in the Chicago Metropolitan Area.

It is part of the larger Indian Boundary Prairies managed by Northeastern Illinois University and The Nature Conservancy. Described by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources as "an unusual example of sandy loam prairie," it is a National Natural Landmark. The hike will be led by Stuart Goldman of Northeastern Illinois University and Karl Gnaedinger of The Nature Conservancy.
