2nd Annual K-9 5K Race to Benefit Police Dogs

valpopoliceThe Valparaiso Police Department’s Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge 76, is sponsoring a 5K Race and 1 mile non-competitive dog walk on Saturday May 11th. The event will kick off National Police Week and is scheduled to start at 9:00 a.m. in Central Park, downtown Valparaiso (corner of Lafayette/Lincolnway). All proceeds raised from the event will benefit the Valparaiso Police Department’s K-9 Program.

Race entries are available at the Valparaiso Police Department or online at www.thtiming.com. or www.valparaisopolice.org. Entry into the race prior to April 30th is $20. Race day registration is $23. Shirts are only guaranteed to pre-registered participants (prior to April 30th). A one mile non-competitive K-9 walk will begin immediately after the start of the 5K race. Registration is also required for the K9 walk.

Many activities are planned at Central Park for the event. Some of the events include; police K-9 demonstrations, police vehicles on display, and plenty of food and drinks.

Purdue University North Central students enrolled in a Small Group Communications course have volunteered to create and distribute promotional materials for this year’s event. One of their activities included raising funds by selling K9 t-shirts on campus.

Registration race packets are available to be picked up on Friday May 10th from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Extra Mile Store located at 1330 E. Lincolnway Ave in Valparaiso.
