3 VSC Records Fall at Quads

Each January the state of Indiana selects its finest boys and girls to compete in the Quadrangular Championships against several other all-star teams from nearby states. For each age group and gender only 12-16 swimmers are chosen to represent Team Indiana. The Valparaiso Swim Club was proud to have two of those spots filled by Andrew Antonetti and Trevor Stalbaum.

To start the weekend off Antonetti shaved 7 seconds off the team record in the 200 Backstroke. His time of 2:05.39 was 2nd place at the meet, and qualified him to swim at the National Age Group All-Star Showcase in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida this coming April. Later that afternoon, VSC swimmers showed the strength of their distance swimmers in the 1650. Both Antonetti and Stalbaum went under the previous team record. Antonetti stopped the clock at 17:09.45 for a first place finish at the meet. The time is the fastest time in the state this season. Stalbaum finished in 6th place with a time 17:46.00, his time qualified him for the senior state championship in the 1000 free, and the 1650 free.

The times continued to drop on Sunday. Antonetti swam a lifetime best 1:55.01 in the 200 Free and settled for 5th place. Seeded 7th in the 500 free forced Antonetti to swim in the outside lane. Antonetti went to work from the beginning of the race and took 10seconds off of his previous best. Posting the time of 4:59.03 set a team record and earned a 3rd place finish at the meet.
