A Geocaching We Will Go

Valpo Life GeocacheValpoLife.com now has a geocache! A geocache is sort of high tech scavenger hunt. The idea is that someone takes some kind of container (the cache) and fills it with a random assortment of items and a log-book. That someone then hides the cache in a public place (usually a park or a public garden.) Finally that person uses a GPS device to log the coordinates of where that cache is.

Now the fun begins! Individuals with GPS units can put the coordinates into their GPS units and use it to find the cache. Usually this person will sign the log book, take a random item and leave an item in it's place. This way the cache is self sustaining.

So here it is Valpo! Here's the location for the ValpoLife.com Geocache and some tips.

Coordinates:
Latitude:41.493981
Longitude:-87.064252

Tips:
-Most commercial GPS units will allow you to put in non street coordinates, but you might have to consult your user manual.

-Some units require different formats so you might need to use a format converter site to help you.

-If you don't own a GPS unit, you can use this Google Maps link to pinpoint the spot, then go look for it.

I'll be posting the names I find in the logbook here, so keep your eyes peeled. Good luck Geocachers!
