A “Grand” Invasion

Last Friday, our school population swelled to over 725 with the arrival of some very wise guest students. Grandparents, from far and wide, came for our annual Grandparents’ Day bringing smiles and hugs with them. The students, in their classrooms, eagerly awaited their grandparents’ entrance. First grade students peeked out of their classroom for their grandparents, who had a long trip to make down the primary hallway. The middle school students beamed when their grandparents made the effort to come up to the second floor to see them, too. I’m not exactly certain who was more excited to see whom, the grandchild waiting for the grandparent, or the grandparent scanning the room for their grandchild, but when the wait was over there were hugs and kisses galore.

Pure, unconditional love flowed throughout the classrooms and spilled into the halls. One couldn’t help but overhear the conversations that were traded in the halls by proud grandparents as they boasted of their “gifted” grandchild’s handmade picture or brilliant answers given in class.

No wonder God created grandparents—everyone needs to have their own personal cheerleader!
