Sometimes, meeting someone can change your life. For Mike Berrier, listing specialist for Lynda Anderson Team at Boulder Bay Realty, meeting Anderson led him to a brand new career.
Born and raised in Lake Station, Berrier graduated high school and went straight into the workforce, working his way to a manager at Radio Shack. He then spent several years working in retail management, and while he enjoyed the work, he felt that there was more he could be doing with his career. Enter Lynda Anderson.
“Lynda and I definitely met up at the right time,” Berrier said. “I’d been doing the same thing for 20 years and it was just not something I wanted to do with my life any longer. Here [at Boulder Bay], getting someone’s home sold so that they can move on to the next home, or whatever their next venture is, gives me a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction at the end of the day.”
Anderson recognized the talent and drive in Berrier, and Berrier recognized the impact he could have on clients by working with the Lynda Anderson Team at Boulder Bay Realty.
“I had not thought much about real estate until I met with Lynda,” Berrier said. “We were talking about what she does and how she does it and I was talking about what I do as a retail manager and there were a lot of similarities. But it sounded like what she was doing was a lot more impactful, and I really wanted to touch more people’s lives and make a bigger impact in their lives.”
Mike quickly set to studying and earned his real estate license. He then joined the quality team at Boulder Bay to gain that all-important real-world experience.
In his new position, he now has the opportunity to focus on homeowners’ needs, and to use his skills and expertise to sell their homes quickly at a great price.
“I really enjoy working with people,” he said. “In this role, I get to truly help people with what they need. It’s not easy to just sell your house. You have to have an internet presence and somebody who’s looking out for your best interest, and that’s where I come in and really shine.”
Berrier is motivated by the fast pace and variety of the day.
“There’s always something different,” Berrier said. “Every client you work with has their own personality, their own needs, so it’s always something new and it keeps it exciting. You don’t know what you’re going to get until you dig deep into the needs of each client.”
“I really like The Lynda Anderson Team atmosphere at Boulder Bay,” Berrier added. “Everyone here is willing to help out. A lot of times, commissionable sales can be a very cut-throat environment but that’s not the case here. We’re truly a team,” Berrier said.
Berrier has big plans for his future at Boulder Bay and is looking forward to learning more and growing a solid business.
“I’m looking forward to growth and independence at the same time,” he said. “I’ve always been a leader and I would definitely love to be leading a team in the future once I have the knowledge and experience down. As far as independence, being able to run this as my own business, I can adapt as I see fit to continue to grow my clientele.”
Berrier and his wife live in Lake Station with their two dogs and cat, maintaining a close and steady relationship with their parents. And despite labeling himself a homebody, Berrier does enjoy traveling to visit family or heading to Chicago or Indianapolis to visit the zoos and aquariums with his wife. He also enjoys going to concerts and playing basketball and racquetball with friends.
