A Message From Porter health system

February 2, 2009

Dear Neighbor,

We are beginning 2009 with wonderful news we want to share.

HealthGrades- a national leader in rating health care institutions- has rated porter first in the region and third in the state for Coronary Interventional Procedures. HeathGrades has also rated Porter fourth in the state for Overall Orthopedic Services. In all, Porter received nine five-star ratings- the highest possible- from HealthGrades in 2009.

In a state that has a great many exemplary hospital systems, we are proud that Porter has been named among elite institutions that have demonstrated clinical excellence in both cardiac and orthopedic services.

We want you to know we value what you have to say about the care you receive here- what you like and what you would like to see changed. It is with a great deal of pride that I am able to tell you that more patients than ever before are telling us the care they received while a patient at Porter met or exceeded their expectations.

That means a great deal to me personally, and to those who work at Porter. We take pride in our work and are happy that so many of you are telling us you appreciate what we do.

The next time you visit Porter, either as a patient or as family member or friend visiting one of our patients, I hope you will take the opportunity to notice banners posted prominently within the nursing units proudly announcing where our patient satisfaction has reached 100 percent.

We are posting these banners because we ant you to know that, in the units where banners are displayed, every patient who was surveyed after their discharge during the last three months, said they would recommend Porter to their family members and friends. That is an amazing distinction for the units and for those who staff them. It is a testament to the work of so many who contribute to making each patient's stay a comfortable one.

I hope you will have the opportunity to take advantage of one or more of a series of programs dedicated to heart health, which will be offered by several of our physicians and staff members in February. The physicians who are donating their time to providing educational opportunities for members of the community during American Heart Month are part of Porter's Cardiac & Vascular Institute, a center dedicated to the care, prevention, and treatment of heart disease. These are physicians who believe strongly in Porter's mission to offer the best, most advanced cardiac and vascular care available as well as the education that can be used to prevent diseases of the heart and vessels.

As we look forward to spring, we are very much looking forward to breaking ground on the new hospital at U.S. 6 and Indiana 49. The design of this beautiful new hospital is complete and we look forward to the first signs of spring to begin. Our new hospital is scheduled to open in 2011.

Sincerely,

Jonathan S. Nalli
