A Valpo Life in the Spotlight: Lindsey Elderkin

lindsey-robbinhurstThe summer is in full swing. And speaking of swing, (I’m about to rock a transition, here) this week’s Valpo Life in the Spotlight is a golfer and happily works as the Marketing and Outings Coordinator at Robbinhurst Golf Club and Driving Range here in town. Ladies and gents, please say hello to Lindsey Elderkin.

Born and raised in Michigan City, Indiana, Elderkinis a born and bred Hoosier. She attended Michigan City Schools and was quite active in theater throughout.

“My parents would describe me as a super shy child,” Elderkin admitted. “Creative, but shy. I got my creative outlet through theater. I started in high school and that’s what got me exposed to Lake, Porter, and La Porte Counties.“

After graduation, Elderkin went to college at Purdue and tackled a double major in professional writing and visual communications. When she conquered college she went into radio and then found a job as a technical writer in Chicago.

Longing to do something more creative than write manuals, and missing her family, Elderkin left her job in Chicago and came with her husband to Valpo. She got to work right away in his family owned business that is Robbinhurst Golf Club. She spends time with people on a daily basis and she handles the golf outings and events for the business as well as the marketing and social media needs.

Elderkin gets involved with the community in different ways. Through the golf club she is able to participate in many charitable functions by offering the course itself as an amenity. Lots of organizations and foundations go to her when they need a good place to have a function or fundraiser and a good person to be involved with it. She is also able to give donations to charities and participate in school functions thanks to the generous hearts at Robbinhurst Golf Club.

Outside of work, Elderkin is a talented thespian. She is greatly involved in the theater community and does shows all over Northwest Indiana.

“I am the vice president of a great organization called the Northwest Indiana Excellence in Theatre Foundation. It allows me to go to every single theater in the region,” Elderkin said.

In her free time, Elderkin loves read, write, be at the beach, and golf (that’s a given).

“My entire family golfs,” Elderkin said. “And we’re going to have two future golfers in the family soon.”

That’s right folks, Elderkin is expecting twins this November! Hooray, babies!

So does the mother-to-be have any advice for the world?

Why yes, she does.

“Happy, successful people are always seeking risk and this rang true to me for success in general. I apply that to my own life,” Elderkin said. “I don’t stop and it’s difficult for me to hear the word, ‘no’. I don’t have a lot of regrets about stuff so it’s about taking risks.”

So if you want to have a great game of golf or just want to meet someone really cool, head over to Robbinhurst Golf Club and say hi to Lindsey Elderkin. You’ll be glad that you met this Valpo Life in the Spotlight.
