It was a beautiful morning with the sunlight illuminating the stained glass in the church as we celebrated the feast of the Guardian Angels with a special ceremony after our all-school Family Friday mass. All the students and mentors were seated in their Family groups throughout the church dressed in their new Family Friday t-shirts. The shirt colors echoed the colors of the stained glass bringing a sunshiny spirit into the church.
At the conclusion of the mass, Father Joe prayed and blessed the Guardian Angels medals that were there for all our new students and staff. The little kindergartners were the first to come forward and receive their medals one-by-one. Their faces were so earnest and their eyes sparkled so as I placed the medal over their head and blessed them with the words, “May the Guardian Angels guide and protect you.” Their small voices answered, “Thank you.” All new students and staff were presented with their medals with the same words, their eyes and nods just as earnest as the littlest recipients. It was a lovely ceremony and one that speaks to the many intangibles that occur at our school that separates us from any public school.
