Tickets required for free event, which is part of the National Society of Leadership and Success 2010 Live Speaker Series indiana-university-northwest

Acclaimed author and speaker Dion Jordan, also known as “The Potentialist,” will appear at Indiana University Northwest at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 23, in Raintree 102. Jordan, whose books include the bestsellers “All It Takes Is All That You’ve Got” and “MAXIMUM POTENTIAL: 21 Empowering Beliefs of The World Class,” will stand in for original presenter Bertice Berry, Ph.D., who was forced to cancel her appearance due to family concerns.

A native of Palm Springs, Calif., Jordan is regarded as one of the most powerful and engaging professional speakers working today. He has appeared in “USA Today” and on the “Oprah Winfrey Show.” Jordan has been christened a “speaking rock star” by Monster.com. He was named Speaker of the Year by members of Toastmasters International in 2007.

In 1999, Jordan launched Dion Jordan Enterprises, a full-service international empowerment firm dedicated to empowering individuals and organizations to reach their highest potential and improve their performance. Jordan has been called on by teachers, professional and collegiate sport teams, corporate executives, ministers, and political leaders for his expertise in personal development and leadership. Jordan is also the founder of the Speakers Society, an organization that helps youth and adults build confidence through public speaking.

On Tuesday, Jordan will discuss with audience members some essential principles for overcoming obstacles in their lives, finding the self-confidence to succeed, turning what they have into what they want, and developing a clear vision for success.

Jordan’s appearance is hosted by the IU Northwest chapter of Sigma Alpha Pi, the National Society of Leadership and Success, in cooperation with the Office of Student Life and Athletics. Tickets are free to the campus and to the public, but they do require an RSVP. Call (219) 980-6755 to reserve seats.

Attendees must arrive by 5:50 p.m. in order to be seated in the Raintree auditorium. Overflow seating will also be available for a closed-circuit broadcast in a separate location on campus. This presentation will be broadcast live to students at more than 200 other campuses across the country.

Sigma Alpha Pi has more than 80,000 member students representing 213 colleges and universities. Its monthly speaker series is intended to support the Society’s mission of creating lasting, positive change by helping young people discover and achieve their goals.

Charlotte Reed, Ed.D., executive director of the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning, and the founder and lead advisor for the IU Northwest chapter of Sigma Alpha Pi, expressed the chapter’s thanks to Jordan for agreeing to present on short notice. She encouraged the campus and the community to attend what promises to be an instructive and inspirational presentation.

“One of the hallmarks of leadership is the ability to overcome adversity to create positive change,” Reed said. “While there is naturally disappointment that Dr. Berry will not be here as planned, we still have the opportunity to have a tremendous event. Dion Jordan is a recognized authority on personal development who has mentored high achievers from Olympic gold medalists to CEOs on how to reach their highest potential.”
