The 39th Annual American Canadian Macedonian Orthodox Diocese Convocation will be coming to the Radisson Hotel and Star Plaza and Sts. Peter and Paul Macedonian Orthodox Church Friday, Aug. 30 through Sunday, Sept. 1. The convocation will provide a variety of activities available to both attendees and the public.

According to Nick Nochevich, convocation planner, the convocation is hosted in a different city each year and has previously been held throughout the United States and Canada.

This annual event gives us an opportunity to not only live our religion, but also our culture and heritage,” said Nochevich.

Nochevich stated that attendees have also been reunited with lost family members and friends through attending the religious and cultural convocation.

The public is invited to a welcome dance on Friday, Aug. 30, beginning at 8:00 p.m. at Sts. Peter and Paul Macedonian Banquet Hall, located at 9660 Broadway, Crown Point, IN 46307. Cost is $20 and food and beverages will be available for purchase.

Beginning at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 31, Sts. Peter and Paul Church will host a soccer tournament and picnic. The soccer tournament finals and picnic will continue on Sunday, Sept. 1 at noon.

There will be a presentation of church choirs as well as a folk dancing presentation at Sts. Peter and Paul Church on Saturday, Aug. 31, beginning at 4:00 p.m. The folk dancing presentation will showcase the traditions, culture and heritage of Macedonia with dancers in traditional dress. The public is welcome to watch the presentations.

Following the presentation of choirs and folk dancing presentation, there will be a youth dance at Radisson Hotel at Star Plaza. Cost to attend is $20.
