American Cancer Society to “Paint the Town Purple”

relayLogoThe American Cancer Society volunteers participating in this year’s Relay for Life of Duneland will be painting the town purple to celebrate and raise awareness for the society’s signature fundraising event.

Soon the community will be purple with bows and ribbons on lamp posts and Relay for Life signs and banners posted throughout. The Duneland Family YMCA’s youth camp children will be assisting downtown businesses that wish to show their support by decorating storefronts on July 1 beginning at 10 a.m.

We would like to encourage area groups, churches and businesses to form a team for Relay for Life of Duneland,” said Glenda Dershem, Event Vice Chair. “This is the community’s opportunity to join the American Cancer Society’s signature fundraising event.”

Volunteers will be gathering in Thomas Centennial Park in downtown Chesterton at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 30. Anyone wishing to help decorate is invited to join.

The Relay for Life of Duneland will be held from noon Saturday, July 13 through 6 a.m. Sunday, July 14 at Chesterton Middle School, 651 W. Morgan Avenue.
