An Industrial Revolution Eatery & Grille Employee Spotlight: Moelinda Biggs

Think of your favorite restaurant. What makes it so memorable? Odds are, your mind jumps to your favorite dish—maybe Industrial Revolution Eatery & Grille’s classic Pot Roast Mac & Cheese. Maybe you think about the friendly staff bringing your dish quickly with a smile. Since Moelinda Biggs works behind the scenes, you might not know about her, one of Industrial Revolution’s talented cooks who makes that whole process possible.

Biggs first joined the team at Industrial Revolution back in January. Born in Chicago but raised in the area, she had been to the restaurant before.

“I’d been back when it first opened,” she said. “I really liked the atmosphere, especially the model trains going by.”

While she was job hunting in the beginning of the year, she stopped by for a meal and found a job to go along with it.

“When I came in, I was greeted by the friendly staff,” she said. “We talked, and I was looking for work at the time so I asked if they were interviewing and they said yes. I got the job and I’ve been here ever since.”

Biggs never cared much for cooking until she landed her first kitchen job some time ago. There, she experienced cooking from scratch with quality ingredients, something that proved very helpful in meeting the high quality standards at Industrial Revolution.

“Cooking from scratch has turned into entertainment for me, and a real passion,” she said. “I just love doing it. The Pot Roast Mac & Cheese is one of my favorites to make, There are like five different ingredients to go into it. It’s easy to see why it’s a very popular item, but my favorite category is the burgers. They’re so unique and have so many toppings that go on them, the set-ups for them are kind of miraculous.”

Biggs has carried out half of her tenure at Industrial Revolution so far under the shadow of the COVID-19 pandemic. Even while they adjusted their operations to keep customers and staff safe, Biggs always felt supported.

“Their response was really amazing,” she said. “They always kept us up-to-date and provided us with everything we needed.”

But that level of support from the team was nothing out of the ordinary, according to Biggs.

“It’s just a great culture to be around,” she said. “We help each other a lot, if you ever have any questions or need anything you can always ask. Sometimes I even help out on dishes when they’re busy. Everyone’s always helping out everywhere and every day.”

When she is off the clock, Biggs enjoys spending time volunteering, and even spent time helping out at food pantries during the pandemic.

“I just try and stay active, running around and helping by volunteering,” she said. “I think I’m just your everyday average person!”
