Annual Holiday Concert Celebrates the Season Through the Arts

On December 16 and 17, the families, friends, and peers of Valpo’s different choirs and bands gathered at Valparaiso High School for a holiday showcase of artistic expression. Not only was there fantastic music, but also a great deal of visual art created by students, on display in the main lobby.

This is a great way to show the skills of students from all different age groups in Valpo,” said Miguel Rosario, Director of Bands at VHS and Music Department Chair for the Second Level.

The attendees were able to sit and listen to some beloved holiday classics. At the same time, people were able to check out the wonderful pieces of visual art on display.

The students in the bands and choirs came from all over Valpo. Whether they were in elementary school, middle school, or high school, each student performed beautifully. Each group brought a unique rendition of holiday favorites with them.

The visual art was not to be missed either. The wide array of painting, sculptures, and any other type of visual art one could hope for was a testament to the talent of these young artists.

It’s a great time to see all the hard work that the students put into their music and visual arts,” said Rosario.

There was even a special treat at the end. As the audience participated in the sing along portion of the concert, Santa himself came to put a smile on the face of every attendee, young or old, audience member or performer. Many of the students performing could hardly contain their joy as the jolly man in the red suit greeted everyone.

All in all, it was a wonderfully festive time. From the great holiday music to the impeccable visual art, the Valparaiso students, from elementary and up, provided the audience with a feast for the eyes and ears.
