Artful Offerings for Local Celebrations

Lubeznik-Holiday-Artisan-Market-1Art is at the center of a number of holiday events taking place at Michigan City's Lubeznik Center for the Arts this season.

The festivities begin on December 2 with a special "Holiday Artisan Market" edition of their popular First Friday after-hours open house from from 5:00 'til 8:00 p.m. A spectacular selection of gift-giving possibilities by some of the Midwest's finest craftspeople will be on display ─ among them, one-of-a-kind fish sculptures made from recycled sheet metal, copper and steel by "Fishmonger" Greg Summers of Indiana.

Those looking to support the community while they shop will be inspired by over 100 artist-made ornaments being sold as a fundraiser benefiting Lubeznik Center education outreach.

Visitors are also invited to view current exhibitions, shop and celebrate the season with holiday cheer and live music by the Marquette Singers. Refreshments will be available and admission is free.

On Saturday, December 10, the Center will present the fine art of pizza during the Uptown Art District’s first annual Holiday Culinary Walk benefiting Michigan City’s Mainstreet Association. Fans of art and food alike are invited to sample local fare from 3-7 p.m. at venues throughout the District, extending from Lubeznik Center, south along Franklin Street. Tasting tickets, and complete details, will be available at participating venues and online at uptownartsdistrict.org.

The food fun continues on Saturday, December 17 from 3-7 p.m. with Chili Night in the Uptown Art District. Kristy Bardol of Soda Dog will be serving up spicy goodness alongside the artworks in Lubeznik Center's Hyndman Gallery. Twelve cooks at twelve venues will participate, with a limited number of tasting tickets being sold at December 2nd's First Friday event. Organizers expect tickets to sell out fast... chili connoisseurs are encouraged to purchase early to avoid disappointment.

Michigan City Mainstreet Association has additional "Winter Wonderland" experiences planned throughout the Arts District, including ice carving, stained glass tours, photos with Santa and horse-drawn wagon rides ─ making the holiday season merry and bright in Michigan City.
