Ava Spencer of TJMS Honors Favorite Teacher and Wins Essay Contest

Recently, students from Ms. Michelle Coberg’s 6th grade English Language Arts classes wrote essays that honored the teachers who inspired them the most. Essays from across Northwest Indiana were then submitted into the Barnes & Noble "My Favorite Teacher" Contest.

Out of over 100 essay submissions, Ava Spencer, a sixth grade student at TJMS was named winning essayist, and the teacher she nominated was Paula Heuring, a teacher at Parkview Elementary School in Valparaiso. Mrs. Heuring has been named the local winner, and both she and Ava were honored at the Valparaiso Barnes & Noble on 150 Silhavy Road, Valparaiso in early April.

TJMS-BN-Ava 2The Barnes & Noble "My Favorite Teacher" Contest allowed middle and high school students to tell the world about a teacher that had a positive impact on them. Ava’s essay will now be entered in the regional competition for a chance to win a $500 Barnes & Noble Gift Card.
