Valparaiso High School alum Jeff Samardzija had an excellent outing in his last appearance for the Triple-A Iowa Cubs.
The right hander threw a complete game, going seven innings while only allowing 2 runs on six hits. Both runs came in the first and “The Shark” shut down Memphis the rest of the game. The Iowa Cubs won 5-2, and Samardzija also homered in the contest.
The game was the first in a doubleheader, where PCL (Pacific Coast League) rules stating that for doubleheaders, each game being played for only seven innings. Samardzija is 2-1 in Iowa with a 4.01 ERA
