Be a COVID-19 vaccination site volunteer with Porter County Health Department

COVID-19 has been tough on all of us and we are looking forward to the day when we can restore some normalcy to our lives. Up until now, our only tool in fighting COVID-19 has been practicing prevention techniques. With the availability of vaccines, we can now start a second front in the war against COVID-19! And that is where we need your help!

With the ever-expanding number of people who are eligible for vaccination, we continue to open new vaccination sites and expand the number of appointments at each location. We need your help to vaccinate as many people as we can.  Every vaccination we give reduces the risk of serious illness and the potential loss of life.

Be a hero!

We are seeking volunteer heroes to help us keep expanding the number of people we vaccinate. We are looking for people with bright and sunny personalities who are willing to go the extra mile with every single person that will visit our sites. We want our visitors to feel your smile even though they can't see it through your mask.

Volunteers must be at least 18 years old. While shift times will vary, we will ask for a minimum 4-hour commitment per shift. Volunteers will be required to review and complete consent forms and a HIPPA agreement prior to volunteering. Those who volunteer are eligible for COVID-19 vaccination if they commit to volunteering at least 35 hours.

We currently have vaccination locations in both Valparaiso and Portage. You can find the hours for each location when you complete the online Volunteer Application.

Listed below are the Volunteer roles we are seeking, along with instructions on submitting an online Volunteer Application.

Medical professional volunteers

Medical professional volunteers will be performing vaccinations. Medical professionals will be required to present a copy of their license or certification. According to the American Public Health Association, professionals who will be able to administer the COVID vaccine include Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Doctors, Physician Assistants, Pharmacy Technicians, Dentists, Medics, EMTs, and Veterinarians. Medical students, nursing students, and pharmacy students will also be considered.

If you wish to volunteer, please complete and submit our ONLINE MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL VOLUNTEER APPLICATION FORM. After you submit the online application, we will contact you for more information and provide you with the necessary forms to complete. Once your completed forms are returned to us and we confirm your license or certification, we will begin assigning you to a vaccination clinic.

NOTE: Due to the overwhelming number of volunteer applications for the registrants/schedulers and greeters/operational support categories, they are temporarily pausing any new applications.

Registrant & scheduler volunteers

You will be responsible for registering visitors and scheduling them for their second dose. You MUST be proficient with 21st-century technology and experienced with entering data accurately to web-based applications using laptop devices.

Greeters & operational support volunteers

You will be responsible for greeting visitors, directing them through the process, observing them after they receive the vaccine, restocking supplies and other operational duties. This position requires excellent "people skills", patience and the willingness to make sure every visitor has an exceptional experience.
