BFMS 7th Grade Basketball Recap: vs. LaPorte Boston

The 7th grade “A” team lost a heart breaker last night to La Porte Boston 37-35. The Vikes outplayed their competition for most of the night, but being under-sized was the difference as BF was unable to come up with a rebound that led to a buzzer beater by Boston in the final seconds of the contest.

Drew Paul was great and led the Vikes with 15 points. Mike Girman hurt his ankle late in the first quarter and never came back and the Vikings struggled with La Porte’s size. Kyle Kaminski came off the bench and provided a much needed spark on defense as well as offense. Scoring for the boys were: Alex with 8, Max and Kyle with 4, Cole with 3, and Mike with one.

The boys end the regular season with a record of 13-7. This determined group will shake off this tough loss and prepare for the conference tournament on Monday. BF will play Crown Point Taft at 4:30. Good luck boys!

The boys’ 7th grade B team completed a very fine season with a win last night over LaPorte Boston 33-15. The Vikes struggled through the 1st half and just couldn't find their offense but they came out fighting in the 2nd half and pulled away early in the 3rd quarter. Colin Ahearn led the way with 12 points followed by Dan Wimberley’s 8 and Jake Pancek's 5. Rounding out the scoring was Ryan Wexelberg with 3, Daniel Gholston with 3 and Jacob Wallace with 2. Wimberley and Gholston each pulled down 5 rebounds apiece and Tony Carpenter grabbed 3.

Eric Yiankes decided he would be the distributer in the game and led the way with 3 assists and Matt Emerson dished out 2 assists. Tenacious defense was evident as usual for this team of scrappy defenders. Dominic Snemis snagged 2 steals while all other players each had 1.

The Vikes finished their season with a record of 17 wins and only 2 losses. I congratulate each and every player on a job well done and I feel every player contributed throughout the season and most importantly improved their skills. The B team wants to take this time to thank all the fans for their support during the year and especially to the parents for taking them to open gym, early practices before school and providing awesome snacks before every game! Great job boys, you have been a pleasure to coach this year.
