Blackbird Cafe opens doors for limited seating and unlimited kindness

One of Valparaiso’s favorite gathering spots opened its doors to customers after an extended and necessary hiatus. Blackbird Cafe is now open with limited seating so frequent fliers can enjoy their coffee and treats on location.

With a maximum allowance of 15 people at a time inside the cafe plus outdoor seating, Blackbird Cafe opening for dine-in service comes just in time for warm weather and an increase in downtown activity. The cafe is open daily, 7:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m., Mon.-Sat., and 7:00 a.m.-5:00p.m. on Sundays.

The COVID-19 pandemic caused Blackbird Cafe to adjust its service and hours a couple times to accommodate the governor’s stay-at-home order and safety regulations. Most recently, the well-loved coffee shop provided carryout orders alone. Now, in addition to continued curbside and pick-up service, regulars can catch up at Blackbird for a coffee or grilled cheese once again.

Blackbird Cafe is taking extra care to ensure the safety of their customers by following social distance and sanitation guidelines. Inside the cafe, the tables have all been spread out to ensure at least six feet rests between them. The sit-up bar against the front window has been removed so customers don’t rub elbows anymore, and a variety of clear plastic barriers have been placed between customers and employees to guarantee limited contact.

Adjustments for staff members, including those who are handling food in the kitchen and those who are taking customers’ orders out front, have also contributed to a safe, clean environment.
