Bonner Senior Center Flu Shot Clinic

Total Home Health Services and the Bonner Center in Portage teamed up on Monday to offer seasonal flu shots to the community. Quite a few local residents came out to receive their vaccines, many who missed the previous flu shot clinic due to illness or various other reasons. Along with the shots, seniors came out to the center to socialize with each other.

The Bonner Center offers a location for senior citizens to meet and have fun. As Janet Clem, the director of Bonner Center says, “The Bonner Center is a great place to come, not only for Portage seniors, but seniors from anywhere in the community can come here. You don’t have to be a Portage resident….It’s a great place to come socialize, get a hot meal and our seniors really connect with each other.” They offer lunch on a daily basis, as well as other activities. Some of the options include yoga, Wii bowling, Bingo, Bridge, Dance, and outings to places such as the grocery store.

Many seniors come to the Bonner Center on a daily basis because they have no where else to go during the day. Janet is well aware of this. “A lot of our seniors, that’s the reason they get up in the morning, is to be able to come here and socialize and I think they consider the center to be family and it’s just a great place for seniors to come and enjoy life.” The people that volunteer their time there agree. “There’s no reason for you to sit home and be alone when you can have more fun being down here,” one volunteer states.

The Bonner Center is located at 5800 Lexington Ave in Portage, IN. For more information, call 762-1522 or 762-3591.
