At the beginning of 2016, the Lynda Anderson Team at Boulder Bay Realty decided to raise money every week through a campaign called ‘Flannel Friday.’ Lynda and her team decided that to wear jeans or dress down on Friday’s, but they would have to pay for the privilege. Boulder Bay has collected money throughout 2016, and at the end of the year they will be donating the money that has been raised to The Caring Place in Valparaiso.
This is the first year-long campaign of which Boulder Bay Realty has been a part. It’s given them a great opportunity to raise money and bring attention to The Caring Place whose goal is to provide shelter and services to victims of violence and their children. Through education and awareness, they empower all members of the community to live in peace.
“We just started this year,” said Lynda Anderson. “We really wanted to bring awareness to The Caring Place to help them, and this was a great way to do that. When we’re dressed down on Friday’s it gives us a chance to tell people why.”
“Part of the rules are that if you wear jeans or dress down, you explain and promote what we’re doing and who we’re raising money for,” Anderson continued. “It’s about more than giving. It’s about creating awareness so that hopefully other people will give as well.”
Rather than simply writing a check to an organization this time of year, Anderson thought that the entire team at Boulder Bay should get involved in their campaigns to raise money and bring attention to valuable community organization like The Caring Place.
“The team has been really receptive to ‘Flannel Friday’,” said Boulder Bay agent, Connie Estelle. “They really like it! It’s a nice, fun way to give back. There’s a reason we’re wearing jeans. And when we’re out and about on Fridays, it gives us the opportunity to tell people what we’re doing and for whom we’re raising money and awareness.”
For the team at Boulder Bay, it’s not about a ‘Dress-Down Day,’ but more about a ‘Dress-Give Day.’
“It goes hand-in-hand with the business we’re in,” Estelle said of the campaign to raise money for The Caring Place. “It’s nice when clients find that wonderful home that they know is going to be safe and secure for their family. That’s an awesome feeling, but it’s also great that, with something like this, it goes even further. We also get to feel that when we can support an organization that helps take care of victims of violence.”
“Our goal was not to just simply donate. We wanted to do more than that. It’s nice to feel that you are a part of something bigger than yourself and what you do,” added Estelle.
Community outreach is an important part of what Boulder Bay Realty is all about, and campaigns like these are what help organizations like The Caring Place operate while having a positive impact in the community.
“It’s nice because it’s different,” said Jim Fleming, an agent at Boulder Bay. “It gives us something to do together as a company beyond just simply giving back. Connie is right. As much as we help people through the business, it’s nice to be able to help people beyond what the job requires of us.”
Since day one Lynda Anderson and her agents and staff at Boulder Bay Realty have always worked as a team to raise money for organizations like The Caring Place through various campaigns and events.
