Bowling closes Bearcat Open with pair of wins

The Valpo bowling team earned a pair of victories on Sunday, one of which ranked among the top performances in program history, as it finished out the Bearcat Open in Fairview Heights, Ill.

How It Happened

-          Valpo’s first match on Sunday in bracket play, contested in the best-of-seven baker format, pitted the Brown and Gold against Upper Iowa. Valpo cruised to the victory in four straight games, besting Upper Iowa by at least 33 pins in all four and breaking 200 in three of the four games. The squad’s 207.8 average over the four games ranks seventh-best in a best-of-seven baker match in program history, and is the third-highest average in such a match in the last eight seasons.

-          Valpo advanced to take on Tusculum in its second match, but was unable to capture the same magic as the opener, falling 4-1.

-          Valpo fell behind 2-1 in its tournament finale to Kentucky Wesleyan, but posted matching 213 games in games four and six, sandwiching a narrow four-pin win in game five, to rally for the 4-2 win and finish the tournament in 11th place.
