One of Valparaiso’s great local businesses is celebrating 30 years of service! 
BRQ Quickprint, located right in the heart of downtown Valpo, has been a staple of the community since 1980. Owners Rod and Bonnie Hontz provide quality products with friendly service.
Rod and Bonnie did not start out in the printing business but life experiences led them to it. On their honeymoon, Rod recognized a girl, Cindy, who he knew from working at a resort in Michigan. She introduced Rod and Bonnie to her husband, Al, who inquired if the two were interested in buying a franchise of Big Red Q Quickprint. Both having secure jobs at US Steel, they declined the offer.
Six years later, US Steel was eliminating jobs, including Rod’s and Bonnie’s positions. After a trip to Ohio to visit family, the couple stopped in Toledo to visit Cindy and Al. On the way home, Rod and Bonnie made the decision to invest in a franchise of the printing company. At that time, loans were relatively easy to acquire, with zero money down and within 6 months, the business was supporting itself, despite starting off in an economy experiencing a recession.
Around 5 years later, the Big Red Q Quickprint corporation was sold and the Hontz’s bought their shop. Then they were given the opportunity to change the name. After much thought and because customers already referred to the printing shop as BRQ, they decided to keep the acronym, with the B meaning Bonnie, R meaning Rod, and Q meaning Quality.
The store is open Monday through Friday but not on weekends, as family time is extremely important to Bonnie and Rod. BRQ offers a variety of services, including offset printing, using inked plates on a press, and digital printing, with the capacity for large format prints. They also are eco-friendly in that they use recycled paper and soy inks. Some other products and services they offer are:

Bonnie and Rod are very much aware of the importance of community. Their business thrives off of the community’s support and they like to give back when they can. They participate in the Fall Festival, handing out trick-or-treat notepads during the massive downtown trick-or-treat, Holly Days, and the ARTability Show from Opportunity Enterprises. “It’s our way to give back to the community,” Bonnie says. 30 years is a long life in the business world and it “means something to last this long,”
