Police learned of a new scam that a resident reported to police on Tuesday morning. A female resident in the 1000 block of Chicago St. reported receiving a telephone call from a male subject informing her she had won 2.5 million dollars. He then asked if she was home alone and informed her he would be at her home within twenty-five minutes with her winnings.
The male caller then proceeded to ask if she could come up with $250 for “insurance” When the female advised she could not, the male caller then asked if she could come up with $100 instead. The male caller did provide the female with her correct name and address during his telephone call.
Police responded to the home and the male subject never arrived at the home.
Citizens should be aware of this scam and not provide any information to an unknown caller and never inform someone you are home alone.
