I'm celebrating twenty years as your pastor this week. Of my twenty-nine years in ministry, I have spent twenty of them with you! What I really want to say is "Thank You!" Thank you to those who have prayed for me, my wife, and our three boys. Thank you to every person who has encouraged us in big and small ways. Thank you to those of you who were here twenty years ago and have stayed the course through "many dangers, toils, and snares," to borrow from the lines of the ancient hymn we all love.
The pastor does not do alone the great work God has called the church to do. It is the pastor and the people together. I'm thankful for the dedicated staff I enjoy working with and the elders who provide protection and guidance for our community. You men and women are the greatest! I'm also very thankful for those of you who have come to our church in the last few years. God has sovereignly brought you here. And when God brings new family members to us, we ALL rejoice like parents over the birth of a new child. In fact, it makes the years of struggle all the more worth it.
I'm a little older and grayer now and hopefully a little wiser. But my passion has never been greater. My love for you has never been deeper. I'm excited about our future together. I am constantly in prayer for you and for me. My greatest longing is that together we will become more like Christ for our joy and the glory of God. May God use us to change Even More lives together. "Tis grace hath brought us safe thus far, and grace will lead us home."
