The local Indiana University Alumni Associations of Northwest Indiana, the IU Northwest Student Alumni Association and the IU Northwest Student Nurses Association are teaming up this fall to lend support to the 14th Annual IU Blood Donor Challenge, which runs from Sept. 7 until Oct. 22. The IU Northwest groups will host three blood drives on campus on Monday, Oct. 11, Tuesday, Oct. 12, and Tuesday, Oct. 19. The drives will be held in IU Northwest’s Moraine Student Center.

The IU Alumni Association has set a goal of 3,000 units of blood for this year’s Challenge. One blood donation may be used to help three people. The IUAA is asking all community members, loyal IU students, faculty and staff to contribute to the cause by participating in this year’s blood drive.

The IU Northwest blood drive has a goal of 200 units. The drive will run from 12 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 11, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 12, and 2:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 19.

Blood donors will be entered into a drawing for a $50 gift certificate, which will be given out twice per day.

To make an appointment, donors may register online at redcrossblood.org and enter IUN as the sponsor code. Or, they may call Annetta Hill at the IU Northwest School of Nursing at (219) 980-6600 or anfhill@iun.edu, or contact the IU Northwest Office of Alumni Relations at (219) 980-6769 or alumninw@iun.edu.

To be eligible to donate blood, donors must be at least 17 years of age, weigh a minimum of 110 pounds and be in good general health. All donors must bring a donor card or positive form of identification to the blood drive.
