In February 2015, Mark Murray celebrated 25 years of service to Center for Hospice Care. Murray has been President/CEO since 1997 following seven years as Vice President. He was the 2011 and 2012 Chair of the Board of Directors for National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO). Murray served on the 26-member national board for eight years beginning in 2006 when he was elected Great Lakes Geographic Area Director. In 2015, Murray was appointed to a two-year term as Board Chair of the Hospice Action Network (HAN) and continues to serve on the board today. HAN is NHPCO’s lobbying affiliate and national hospice advocacy organization. 2018 is his eighth year serving on the HAN Board of Directors. Previously Murray served on the board of the NHPCO affiliate organizations, the National Hospice Foundation, and FHSSA, formerly the Foundation for Sub-Saharan Africa and today known as Global Partners in Care (GPIC) now headquartered at Hospice Foundation in Mishawaka where he serves as President/CEO.
GPIC enhances access to palliative care world-wide through partnerships between U.S. hospice programs and hospice/palliative care organizations overseas primarily in Africa where the needs are great and the resources are few. He is a current member of the National Hospice Executive Roundtable, a group of 11 non-profit hospice CEOs from throughout the country who meet in person three times a year to share successes and develop best practices. A former Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Indiana Hospice and Palliative Care Organization, he was first elected to the board in 1996 and continues to serve. He was re-elected IHPCO Board Chair in 2017 and continues in that role. By the appointment of Governor Mitch Daniels he was a member of the Indiana Home Health Services and Hospice Services Council from 2006-2011. In 2012, he was appointed to the Board of Visitors for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at his alma mater, Butler University, Indianapolis.
Off the clock, Murray is all about his family. He’s been married for 32 years and has one daughter and three amazingly entertaining and fun grandchildren. He enjoys watching movies in his home theater, occasional computer gaming, and collecting memorabilia of Baseball Hall of Famer and former Chicago Cub second baseman, Ryne Sandberg.
