Center for Urban and Regional Excellence to Host Open House Oct. 15

iunorthwestIndiana University Northwest’s Center for Urban and Regional Excellence invites the campus, and greater community, to an open house scheduled from 3 until 7 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 15 in the John W. Anderson Library Conference Center.

The open house will be an opportunity for the campus and community to come together to learn about the many collaborative projects underway by the Center, including initiatives in the areas of crime data analysis, economic development, K-12 education, and the performing arts.

Community partners of the Center, as well as IU Northwest faculty will showcase their projects and research studies that work to improve the region. Spoken word and dance performances will also occur giving attendees’ insight into community partnerships in the area of performing arts.

A ‘Spirit of Community Engagement’ exercise will also take place, in which attendees will be able to creatively express what community-based partnerships and engagement means to them.

“The Center for Urban and Regional Excellence is excited to share the stories of our partnerships with the community,” said Ellen Szarleta, Ph.D., J.D., director of the Center and a faculty member in the School of Public and Environmental Affairs. “The support of the campus and community over the past few years has led to meaningful collaborations that will serve as the foundation for faculty, students, staff and community partners to co-create a vision for our region that is sustainable for the future.”

The Center serves as the campus’s “front door” for mutually-beneficial community-based engagement through working collaboratively with organizations in all sectors to advance research, teaching and service.
