All eyes were on the Northwest Indiana Eye and Laser Center on Wednesday, Sept. 22 for the ribbon-cutting ceremony at its new Valparaiso location at 851 Eastport Centre.

The project first started two years ago when the site for the Valparaiso location was first selected. Following the selection of the site, ground broke for the Center at Eastport Centre Business Park in October of 2020. Now, 11 short months later, it’s finally completed and ready to open its doors to treat patients. The new facility is 15,000 square feet, making it around three times the size of its old location on Marquette Street.

The Center provides optimal eye care in Northern Indiana including checkups, exams, surgery, and more.

The building was constructed by Chester, Inc., a company that the Center founder Dr. Scott Buck, M.D. chose to work with because he was very impressed with their work on similar projects. Buck appreciated that Chester had everything, and everyone needed to get the firm going in-house, making it super convenient and easy to get the job done.

“About 2 years ago I called my friend Adam Peuquet and asked him for ideas on space and he brought us here. It was a great opportunity and a great location. I stuck with the Chester team as builders, and this is it. This is 2 years in the making and we will move in, in about 2 weeks,” said Dr. Buck.

Chester, Inc. has constructed a variety of buildings in Northern Indiana, and they are excited to add the Center to its list. Being able to work with a company that provides valuable healthcare services to the community was a project Chester was extremely excited to tackle.

“Dr. Buck was great to work with. He came to us a few years ago with a plan and we got started. Two years later here we are, on time and under budget,” said Adam Peuquet, part-owner of Chester, Inc.

It’s safe to say that the whole Peuquet family has enjoyed working with Dr. Buck and the Northwest Indiana Eye and Laser Center team. Even 10-year-old Brooklyn Peuquet has a great relationship with the team.

“Dr. Buck is one of the best Doctors. He made me my glasses and they are great!” said Brooklyn Peuquet.

Rich Shields, director for marketing and business development at Chester, said he’s proud to add the Center to the continuing resume of businesses his company has worked with. He is also pleased with everyone’s hard work from both his team and the Center’s to make this project possible.

“I feel the dedication and resilience of Chester’s architects, sales engineers, project managers, and subcontractors, along with the constant communication and cooperation

from Dr. Buck and all the staff at NWI Eye and Laser Center made this such a seamless process and brought this great building to fruition in a timely manner. It’s truly a testament of concerted fortitude,” Shields said.

Pete Peuquet, CEO of Chester, Inc., is looking forward to seeing how this expansion will benefit Dr. Buck as well.

“It is great that this facility will provide Dr. Buck the opportunity to expand into another facility and help more doctors. This larger space and the expansion will bring in more doctors and that is exciting,” Peuquet said.
