Chesterton European Market Now Open

Today marked the beginning of fresh market season at the European Market in downtown Chesterton. It was the largest opening to date for the market with 90 vendors offering fresh produce, spa goods, handmade items and more.

Residents were able to enjoy nearly perfect weather while strolling through the market, tasting samples, learning about new products and listening to music performed by Goodnight Nurse. Those who stopped by The Tree City USA Arbor Day Foundation booth were even invited to take home a free tree seedling to plant. Special events for the day also included Market Bingo and a Cinco de Mayo Name That Veggie contest.

Roger Hickman, owner of Heaven’s Rim which offers body scrubs and moisturizers, said, “We love coming to this market because it’s like home to us. We will be here every Saturday for the season.” Many other area vendors, such as Duneland Dips and Mixes, Good to Go by Lucrezia and Espress Yourself, are also participating throughout the summer months. As well as market favorites, residents will find new vendors and seasonal items every week.

Chesterton’s European Market runs rain or shine every Saturday from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. through October in downtown Chesterton at Broadway and Third St. Upcoming special market events include Bark in the Park, Market Magic, Zucchini 500 and Party in the Park. Parking is available in numerous locations throughout Chesterton. Lois Ln., which is located on east Indiana Ave. behind the shops on Calumet, west Indiana Ave., the Chesterton United Methodist Church on Second St., and the many side streets in the downtown area all have ample parking.
