Chesterton Health and Emergency Center Earns 2015 National Award

rot4Franciscan St. Anthony Health-Michigan City’s Chesterton Health and Emergency Center has been named a 2015 Guardian of Excellence Award winner by Press Ganey Associates Inc.

The annual award recognizes health care organizations that consistently have achieved the 95th percentile or above in various categories, in this case, patient experience.

Travis Thatcher-Curtis, Emergency Department director, was pleased with the announcement.

“I feel the bar was set really high early on and there has been a continued emphasis on maintaining the momentum we established from the day we opened. The teamwork, commitment and sense of ownership the staff at the Chesterton ED has are at the heart of why we have been so successful.”

The award is a nationally recognized symbol of achievement in health care and honors Press Ganey clients who consistently sustain performance in the top 5 percent for each reporting period during the course of a year.

Gene Diamond, interim hospital president and chief executive officer, said, “In addition to the strenuous efforts of our excellent staff, the lion’s share of the credit for this accomplishment rests with former hospital president Jim Callaghan, whose strong leadership and excellent example set high expectations for outstanding patient satisfaction.”

Trish Weber, hospital vice president of operations and chief nursing officer, agreed.

“This award is truly valued by our team, because it is achieved from the direct voice of the patients we serve. It is a testament to our Franciscan mission, as evidenced by our desire to serve with compassionate care.”

Patrick T. Ryan, Press Ganey chief executive officer, added, “This award is a testament to Franciscan St. Anthony’s leadership in delivering patient-centered care. It demonstrates its commitment to reducing patient suffering and advancing the overall quality of health care.”
